Stopping them from texting while driving is hardly locking them up in a tower. Its a minor inconvenience. Not the end of the world. Though I'm sure they would like to argue differently,.. lol.

Only one problem with locking phones in motion...google maps is THE navigation app for some people who travel infrequently. My wife uses it, my son uses it at work instead of a GPS (A/C tech). It would take my wife or son days to get anywhere if the phone went in to 'motion mode' and they couldn't use the nav features.

Plus, if you disable mobile use while in motion, companies like Drivewyze would go out of business. I think a system that blocks use in certain zones of a car would work better. Stop the driver from using it, passengers free to use them at will.

Guys on this site tend to look at it unilaterally too. They act like everyone is just riding around for fun or a trucker. Many office type people conduct business on their phone now days, back seat of a taxi, with a chauffeur or even just a work car pool. Everyone is quick to complain about hurting our industry to help another but now they're all for hurting other industries in order to help ours.

They dont have to lock all data,.. only the specific API's such as MMS/Text, Http etc. GPS and voice etc would still function as normal.

That would allow navigation, streaming music plus phone calls etc to still work normally. It would deny applications deemed too distracting to use while driving. It would be so easy to implement.

I am 100% for it. People act like these devices are more important than human life.

Someone could say those others are equally distracting.

When I was a kid, we had lead based paint, cars without seatbelts, no bicycle helmets...etc, and we made it to adulthood. But there were quite a few that didn't make it. I was in the 7th grade when the Darwinism kicked in. Started seeing friends die.
One kid broke into an abandoned tower at night, went running around, fell through a hole in a floor, 4 stories down, killed him. His parents boohoo'ed and tried to sue the owner of the property, who had a fence around the property, condemned signs, no trespassing...but the parents felt that there should have been something around that hole. Sorry parents, your kid was stupid.
One kid broke into a warehouse to steal. A security guard heard him, shouted a warning, fired a shot through the ceiling that hit an I-beam and struck the kid right between the eyes. Final destination.
One kid had his girlfriend break up with him. He called her on the phone and put a gun in his mouth.
One kid got killed playing Russian Roulette.
One kid went to visit family at an apartment complex. He went diving headfirst in the shallow end of the pool and crushed the base of his skull. DOA.
So, as a kid, when you start seeing your friends die, you make decisions to preserve your own life. Wisdom is the ability to use knowledge to your benefit. You do not have to be old to have wisdom.

Getting the goobermint to enact more laws and regs is actually the worse thing to do. It takes away the responsibility from the individual. Lack of responsibility promotes stupidity in humans. If your kids are not responsible enough to know when to text, then they should not have a cellphone. Plain and simple. If your kid is too stupid to walk and chew gum, why is it Wrigley's fault? Why should the other kids have chewing gum banned? If you as a parent buy something for your kid, knowing that your kid is not responsible, like a car or cellphone or a gun, what happens should come on you. And you'd better hope that a person like me does not get called for jury duty, because I don't have a bleeding heart.
