if i remember correctly from C1, PAM had a higher starting pay but less raises within the first year. I could be wrong though, it's been a year or so.

Nice to know it is working out for you. Doesn't sound like your going to have any trouble making it through the one year contract.
I know a couple drivers at USA that average over 3,000 miles a week, so maybe after a while you'll get more miles.
Do you meet many other drivers out there who have gone through Driver Solutions/C1 training? I know a couple guys who have gone through their Indianapolis school and loved it. Do the people you talk to say the same thing? -
I've met a few drivers who went through C1 and its a mixed reaction. Some of them loved their school and some hated it. I've heard though that C1 in St. Louis, the one I went to, closed. I heard it from one of my classmates but don't know how reliable the info is.

Ya, apparently they shut it down because they cant train students from Illinois anymore. Illinois made it harder to transfer out of state CDLs. Most of the students at that school were from Illinois, so when the law changed they had to shut it down. They have another school in Springfield, MO and that is where all the MO students go now.
You're lucky you started school before this happened. -
Hello all. I haven't posted anything for a while. I just haven't had the time. USA has been running me ragged, which is fine with me. The paychecks have been great
. In the last few weeks I've been in Laredo, sent to Reno, then to Houston then to Wichita. The week before last had 3100 miles, then 2900 mi and am going home this weekend. It'll be low miles this week but will be worth it to go home. Anyway I had my first DOT inspection in NV about one and a half or two weeks ago. I passed with flying colors, no violations in site. Anyway, I'm closing in on six months with USA, and can't decide if I'll stay past the one year mark yet. But I guess I'll just focus on six months right now. Be safe on the road.

What's the per-diem option?
-
The per-diem program is supposed to offer a tax benefit to drivers as well as benefit the company. The way it works at USA is that they take away 12.25 cents-per-mile. They then keep 2.25 cents per mile for an administration fee and pay the remaining 10 cents back to the driver tax free. So say you're new making 27 cents per mile. They subtract 12.25 cents from that leaving you to pay taxes on the remaining 14.75 cents per mile. They then pay you 10 cents of the 12.25 cents back tax free. You therefore pay less in federal, state, and fica taxes, as well as contribute less to your 401(k). Usually you only make an extra 20-50 dollars a week. One big downside to per-diem is that when you file your taxes at the end of the year and take the governments per diem they automatically deduct the company's per-diem from the governments per-diem therefore providing less of a tax break. It is complicated and there are some better examples of it on this site. But that is the jist of it.
