I would highly recommend having or planning to get Hazat endorsement. 3 cents extra on all miles to your base rate. Then if you actually pull a hazmat load placarded or not you get 3 or 4 cents extra on the loaded miles of that trip. The quarterly safety bonus goes from $350 to $525 if you get the bonus. If you don't get it you really screwed up. The band pay averages about 2cpm extra to your average rate per mile. So if you have hazmat and get hired at .37cpm closer it really is closer to .41cpm if you reflect the safety bonus as a rate per mile. If you don't have it they will pay you $100 when you do.
The better part of the deal is the time off package we have. I'm in the second tier of earned time off. I get 6 days off every 60,000 miles plus a half day off every quarter with my safety bonus. The top tier is 9 days off every 60,000 miles. That is almost 20 days off every 13 months for OTR. It takes more time being regional and going home every weekend.
I don't run Florida Regional so I don't know the miles down there. The Northeast regional guys average about 97,000 miles a year. OTR 112,000-120,000.
Once you are in, you will be earning raises for years to come. The cap is pretty high but every zone has a different cap.Jacked Jaw, T_Bone and Solo_Seat Thank this. -
HardlyWorking, that's what I was thinking, get the Hazmat and I was figuring on something like .40 cpm avg...but I like the extra cent. And the raises kick in. I appreciate your info. I see a lot of things about sitting around waiting for loads about a year back. Is that an issue? I take every load given even and I don't complain outside of my cab I like to keep moving, thats the only way to make money on a regional job...burn up that 14 hour clock. I really need the weekends off right now....eventually I would move to the OTR 2 zone but right now I cant for family reasons. Again, I appreciate all of your info.

I pulled the trigger...start orientation Monday in Charlotte.
Jacked Jaw, HardlyWorkingNeverHome and SHOJim Thank this. -
Did you make it to orientation?

I did...have a problem with high blood sugar. Gotta get that straightened out then head back. I have to say, they treated me extremely well after this problem popped up.
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Sorry to hear about the blood sugar. Pills will straight that out hopefully. Full blown diabetes is tough to deal with if you don't take care of it. I know Jacksonville is a bit of a trek to Charlotte. Hopefully you get that in check and come back.
