Obviously it depends on the company, but do the trucks usually have Sirius/ipod hook ups built in or do you guys carry a Sirius/ipod boombox?

I'm actually working days now (P&D), the reason I'm looking into the night linehaul is because it's an O/O opportunity and pays about triple what I make now. I'm honestly not a huge fan of the idea, but I'm a huge fan of the money. I've talked to a couple guys that work for the company (that I already knew) and they confirmed what I'm being told. I also ran into one of their O/O's one morning so I grabbed him and got the same story, he said he's very happy with the deal but he's always been an owl.

13 years night linehaul for me. It's not for everyone. It took me three years to be able to flip my circadian rhythm around. I still get tired. Monday to Friday run. On Saturday, either I sleep the day away if the wife is working, or cat nap during the day and sleep at night. Either way, Saturdays are tough.
Get good sleep during the day. Unplug phone, darkened room, ear plugs and sleep mask, fan on for white noise. I also put a sign on my front door saying night shift worker sleeping. Do not ring bell. Don't eat heavy at work. Small meals and snacks. Avoid carbs like potato chips, look for proteins like nuts in trail mix.
The biggest thing... If you feel tired, for Christ's sake, stop. Get a catnap in. Don't try to push through it. You will micro sleep and wake up in the ditch.herring22, flybynight12, XFM2013 and 7 others Thank this. -

I worked rotating 12 hour shifts for 20+ years and I am still out of wack from them, not sure my sleep will ever be right. Though I think that helps me run TL with scheduled pick up and deliveries being totally different depending.
Big Don Thanks this. -
Had some issues with running night time line haul as well. The job itself is not that bad. Less traffic and far less scales open. You go from one barn to another and usually you don't deal with management.
I swapped to daytime P&D for social reasons. You can't "go out " on a Friday night with your friends (assuming you have time to make any). Same thing with the wife. You are on opposite schedules and usually you guys will keep the bed warm for each other. -
road_runner Thanks this.
