Oh, boy.
As someone who has a far better grasp of the written word versus the spoken word, I'm not sure it was such a good idea to post your email, Brian. I understand it is a "work" email, but in all fairness you're opening yourself to a menagerie of, shall we say, "colorful" characters whose experience with articulating themselves in words that have more than 4 letters is severely lacking.
Not that you have been given sufficient warning - prepare for the onslaught. I, for one, will be sending you an email shortly.

Poor SOB doesn't have a clue what sort of Pandora's Box he's opened. He's no doubt going to be left with the impression truckers are ALL slaves working for bread and water.
Just hope he understands there are all sorts of driving positions and stages and they all pay differently. -

Edited to add: Journalistic integrity suggests that a good reporter should verify his sources and information before going to print. So shall we verify that the person claiming to be a journalist is indeed who he purports to be. In this case, I highly doubt anyone would go to this much trouble to talk to a bunch of "truckers" unless he were working on a legitimate story. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to talk to me unless I have a very good reason.

Every week about 5-10 students finish training and get a job. Not just the company i work for, but all the megas. Every....single. ...week... we don't have a driver shortage. Companies are hiring more people then they have trucks available. New drivers sometimes have to wait till someone quit or get fire.
It isn't the driver shortage, but the lack of commitment to the field. Everybody think it's easy, just driving in a strange line. I trained students who think it's easy money. Until they get their first paycheck and realize they can make the same being home daily scanning grocery at walmart.
About 60% of new drivers quit before 60 days. And 90% after a year. Their was 10 students with me when I join. And I'm the only 1 left now after almost 2 years here.
But then why do most of us do this job? Because we rather do the things we love, than hate our job every day for the rest of our life. I hate cubicle, I hate desk. Looking out the same window, it get depressing.Panhandle flash, gentleroger, Bluess and 2 others Thank this. -

Right on target when you said lack of commitment.I can't blame drivers though,companies make them feel that way and also its a two way street,companies don't show awhole of respect for drivers either mainly the ones that do a lot of advertising.

I have over 38 years in trucking and as i was told as a child riding with a relative on short runs,this industry is full of liars ,thieves,and cheats, and most of them are ceo,recruiters,and brokers of trucking company as true then as it is today.
I am a owner operator and am looking at shutting my truck down in April after it paid for ,if freight rate do not get any better than it did this year.
the biggest problems we have are the brokers freight is too cheap pays less than what it cost to run our trucks.
If you go back to march or April of 2009 and read time mag or one of them you see the ceo of CH Robinson laughing at truckers for having to take $.52 cent per mile out of northern New York because he controlled the area .and the market was week and it drover company and o/o into the ground while he making bank.
If you want settlement statements from my leasing to company's and show the take backs these guys take out of settlements and how the United States of America govt puts more and more burden on us as o/o or drivers, and we do not fall under any labor relaltions because trucking is exemple from such lawsEZ Money and BostonTanker Thank this. -
