@gjcarr03 I visit Dallas and Huston all the time. Never had a problem getting a load out. Almost always get a fair to good rate out too. If he is coming from home time he will be high enough on the board to grab a good load. And there is always freight going to DFW area.
Biggest thing I could say is that for the first few weeks he needs to work and learn. If something isn't working right for him then he needs to be willing to change. I live in the Florida of the west (Phoenix). Everyone knows freight sucks there. But I do fine. The other half of the year I live on an island in Washington. Most say it stinks here too. Well I haven't had that problem either. Learn to work the boards and it really doesn't matter where you live. The only reason ppl fail here is poor planning and pure laziness. If he can plan and work (and you have said a hundred times that he can). Then stop worrying and just get ready for better times ahead.

@stormrunner218 Some of our loads are on there. Most of the good loads never make it to that board (good loads don't last 30 mins LOL).
But many will disagree with me however when I compare the two I have to say that public board shows about 60-70% of our loads and I used it to help me find lane ideas BEFORE I had access to the real board. I think it helped a lot. Altho I couldn't see rates I got a good idea of where freight moved to and fro a lot.HalpinUout Thanks this. -
All loads have to be passed on by Mercer trucks before they hit the public broker board. That's the big difference between us and other carriers. An agent can't make more money by brokering the load instead of putting it on one of our trucks.
Storm runner. My cell phone hates me. Ask high on the board was supposed to be am high on the board. Stupid auto correct.sanchez51476 Thanks this. -

I got accepted before that, and was told I didn't make the cutoff. wtf? it must be me.

Make the cutoff?
-
I was approved in July, You in august. If you made the cutoff, I assume I made the cutoff. Right?

No, he's saying that when you go on hometime, you naturally move up on the board. We are a first empty first offer company, so if you empty out, then spend a week at the house, you will likely be the first one offered any load you match to as anyone else would be empty after you (unless of course they went home before you).CJndaTruck Thanks this.

@gjcarr03 Well, I don't live in Texas, but I've gone to both east and west Texas here. East Texas rates aren't too bad, West Texas sucks coming out IF you can find something, but usually pays enough I'm willing to bounce out when I head out there. As far as staying afloat and always being happy, yeah, I have no issues with that and didn't really struggle out the gate. I did take in lots of information before making the move and I have a few people I talk to for continued advice as well. If you want advice or help, I think everyone here is willing to help if you're willing to listen, you just have to ask. As far as starting in the Winter, I can't help much there, I haven't been through a winter here yet, I started in March.sanchez51476 and gjcarr03 Thank this.
