Pointless speculation until there is an official investigation.Wild Murphy Thanks this.

At 70mph it would do damage to the trailer.

It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out what happened here. If you aren't paying attention, you may run into something. I'm sure the trucker will get something bad out of this. The lawyers are already jumping over each other to cash in.
tech10171968, jammer910Z and 77smartin Thank this. -
Yeah.. they'll clamor over who gets to pore over his records for the last 30 days and find a 15 minute discrepancy somewhere.
Some suit will say , " you shouldn't have been there "... and he will be charged with vehicular death by vehicle and the company will lose its arse.
Not to make light of the lady losing her life , or the children losing a parent, but that IS the likely outcome in this situation.
I hope that I am wrong. God Speed to all involved , and hopes for needed emotional healing that I'm certain will be due all around. TERRIBLE.201 Thanks this. -
That idiotic 55/65 split speed limit Tennessee has around there doesn't help things either.
Grouch and tech10171968 Thank this. -
There is no split speed limit inside the Chattanooga city limits. On I-24 eastbound it is 55 mph for all vehicles from the state line at ~170 mm to ~185 mm where I-24 ends at the junction with I-75. The article said this accident happened at the 178 mm.

I'd hate to be the kid in the backseat watching this play out and then having Mom's brains all over. If she didn't look up, she didn't duck either.
