H.O.S. question

    Ok, I know what will stop an 11 hour clock's ticking... But is there anything that can stop a 14?

    I just completed a trip with 2 stops:
    1st stop, I arrived at about 0530, and needed to wait until 0900 before staff arrived, so I went to sleep and sleeper status after putting myself in position for an EZ straight line back to the dock when ready. Woke up at about 0830... Went on duty (not driving) at 0900 and left stop 1 (driving) at 1000.

    2nd stop, arrived at about 1100, positioned myself again for an EZ straight line back to dock and went off duty with about 30 minutes remaining on my 14. Shouldn't the 3 hours I spent in sleeper at stop 1 have stopped the 14 until I went back on duty?

    Because I was given more time than I needed to complete the run, I was about 24 hours early for stop 1 and 27 early at my final... Now I have to wait until 0900 tomorrow to be unloaded....

    Nope. Only 8 hrs in sleeper stops the 14. And then you have to take a 2 hr break before your time expires. From your other posts, you are on elogs, so if does all the work for you in figuring out time available.

    The only way to stop the 14 is with 8 hours in the berth.

    The 8 sleeper doesn't stop the 14. Merely resets it so to speak.

    The only way to stop your clock is with a full 10 hour break.

    Next time don't get there too early if you know you're going to wait. Once you clock in, it doesn't stop until you do a 10 hr break, or a 8/2 split

    I think it's worth saying again that an 8/2 split DOES NOT stop your clock! Think of the 8 as extending your day. The 2 does nothing except complete the split for 10 hours off. Also, just because you logged an 8 sleeper does not mean you have to log 2 off duty. You can log an 8 sleeper because the shipper hosed your day and then finish out your drive time, park, and take a full ten (which you'll probably want anyway).

    ***rewording*** 8 in sleeper gives u back hours u had before u went sleeper. Drive till that's up, 2 hours off duty complete your 14.

    But if a shipper took 8 hours u might as well stay for another 2 hours to get your 10

    I know that, but there wasn't a safe place to pull over anywhere along the route once I started rolling and had an appointed pick up time. So the safest/best option was what I ended up with. I just wish my planners could have seen it beforehand. I did start the run fresh off a 34 + about 6 hours before I started.... This trip should have been planned as follows:

    0000: pickup at origin
    0100: depart origin
    30 minute break
    0700: drive time (6 hrs @ 50mph average for 250 miles estimated) arrive at stop 1.

    0800: unloaded from stop 1 and departed.
    0930: drive time to final (approx 1 hr for 60 miles)
    1030: start 10 hr reset before taking next order.

    I meant if u knew that staff arrived at 0900 why arrived at 0530 and waste almost 3 hours. Unless ur appointment was at 0530 then that's ur planner fault
