I know they bought a bunch of new white trucks with a tag axle on the drives. Or well at least one axle that doesn't have a drive shift and gears, not sure if an axle has have the ability to lift to qualify as a "tag". Doesn't matter though. I left just as they were coming in and I was hoping for a report on how they handle and what not. I know there were a few times in tank washes I needed to lock my axles to get out of a pothole. Just pure curiosity on my part here.
About those tag axle Schneider trucks.

Last winter, chicago intermodal yard became a parking lot with bobtail stuck everywhere. Not just in the parking spaces, but stuck on the way to the gate or just flat out I'm the middle of the lane. Some of them gave up and abandoned it in the middle.
They got rid of the tag, they said they are senting them down south instead. -
Okay so that experiment is over then? Like they aren't going to buy them again?
-
Exact same thing happened at the chicago tank wash in bulk. wreckers had a hay day more than once. Same story too, sent down south to run regional.ethos Thanks this.

Not sure. All the osr told me was they were a hassle and they decide to sent them south to let them have it. I thought tanker had them too?
ethos Thanks this. -

It just seemed to be a dumb idea but I've never driven one so what do I know. But every winter I used to get stuck at least once with true duals. But now I put down salt and then back up onto it and I haven't been stuck since.
Da Beast and exracer941 Thank this. -
They have not got rid of the tags, however, they have decided that they are southeast regional and southern local only. I was just assigned one last month when they decided to sell my Columbia and I am OTR, but they did not have any of the new non tags available. A couple of the Houston DBLs told me that they are switching to all automatics, but they learned their lesson with the tags, so they aren't getting them anymore.

Buddy of mine on the company side got issued one, biggest beef was they dont like hard cuts in reverse and they dont eant to push a hill in reverse at an incline....and he got stuck at a pilot fuel island once loldrvrtech77 and ethos Thank this.

When I was at sec they bought several of those like that and one driver I spoke to who had one said his truck alone was nearly $700 on tow bills on his truck alone and they had 60 of those trucks...they decided that the supposed fuel savings went out the window with wrecker bills so they started ordering with differentials...lol
sicksfeet Thanks this.
