So what you're really saying is "I'm buying no matter what, I just want you to agree with me". If it is an "independent spread", the reason I tried to steer you away from that, among other reasons, is they crack the slider rails, number one and number two they won't stay in alignment.

That's not what I've heard or what some guy told me, I've been pulling spread axle trailers since the 80's. But it's your money so it doesn't really matter what anybody else thinks in the end anyway.

Not at all flyer, I just wanted more information on them in general. A while ago I had some tell me that a sliding spread was the way to go, but never did homework because it was a mere thought. What you just said is information I'm interested in! After giving it more thought, I'm just not interested in a 50 ft regardless of spread or closed tandems. You're first post just never gave a reason why an independent spread was bad. Plus that's a risk I'm not comfortable taking.

Well now there is a big difference between an independent axle sliding spread and a "sliding spread". One the axles slide independently of one another (not good) and the other the axles slide together.

Does a sliding spread have similar issues to that of an independent sliding spread? Also how practical is a spread on anything above a 48? From what I've been watching, they get snatched up quickly, yet my friend says a 53 is pointless since it's rarely loaded past the 48 mark.

I know this post is old, but here is my thought on the independently sliding axles on that trailer. Its a 03 trailer and you said the slider and cross members looked good, so i would believe the axles can't be that bad. Like anything you abuse, probably not going to last. I own a 04 53ft dryvan with independently sliding axles and the slider looks like the day it was new. My trailer is definitely getting old i would think if it wasn't a good setup i would of experienced problems by now.
