    Before we start no politics please...That will get the this thread locked quick I'm sure...

    I am thinking of switching jobs next summer, due to lack of benefits at my current job...

    They offer health coverage but it is too expensive for my liking and doesn't cover much...

    I am single, 37, non smoker, and paying $245/month basically for a catastrophe policy, covers almost nothing till I hit a deductible that is over $5000...And I know the rates are jumping up sharply for 2016.

    I will gamble, drop my health coverage and just pay the fine for the next 2 years before I pay over $300/month for the entire year.

    I am thinking of Ashley Distribution or Wal-mart next year if I stay OTR, ideally I have some local things in mind...

    Where do you work? What are your medical premiums?

    $0 for Blue Cross / Blue Shield, no deductible, $2 prescriptions. I don't pay anything for my eye and dental either, but the eye coverage is marginal at best.

    Approximately $836/month for driver and spouse. $2500 deductible, $4 prescription (when available, wife has many that are not made in the generics), dental, and 5 different AFLAC policies. It is completely worth the monthly premium for my wife. YMMV

    I buy my own coverage directly from BC / BS of AR. For single coverage, $1000 deductible, $20 office visits, no referral needed, $15 / $30 for prescriptions, I pay $335.50 per month. The deductible is what kills most people that only look at the monthly expense. Unless you have immediate access to whatever dollar amount your deductible is, at ALL times, you are better paying a bit higher in premiums to keep your deductible down.
