My FLD was made to last. The Century class Freightliners and many more models were made in Mexico. They also use more plastic in the newer models. The fleet trucks are usually 1000 to 2000 lbs lighter so more payload.

They are cheap and light. A Pete is a nice truck drove them in the oil field 300k miles still quite. International 200k squeaks' everywhere. People say Freightliners are getting better, I drove a new one in the oil field it was nice. Kinda of like a nice minivan. I wonder what it would do with 200k of those roads carrying 85k all day, all night. . I think the price difference is closer to 20k. But the resale value would make it even? You sell two trucks with 800k a Pete and Freight, price difference is 15k????

Freightliners are built in North Carolina too. But like the others said, companies like freightliners because they're inexpensive, easy to service, and they have dealers everywhere in case you need a bulb or whatever in a pinch.
Everyone clowns freightliners but I like them. 90% of my trucking career has been behind the wheel of a cascadia, so they've really grown on me. My company has started buying them with autos, and other drivers have said they really like the autos. -
Over a million miles I've put on the lil freight shaker. No major issues. Still get 7-8 MPG. Just the difference between 6 and 7 MPG is like 65000 gallons at a million miles. At $2 that's $130000 saved in fuel. So why do you think all the Megas buy all these Freightliners? I know why I did.
Orangees and CasanovaCruiser Thank this. -
I ran a brand new Cascadia for a bit... felt like a toyota tercel and I absolutely hated it. I'm running a 04 tridrive conventional with a series 60 now and it's bulletproof and super easy to work on.

Freightliner was the brainchild of the guy who ran Consolidated Freightways, better known as CF. They needed a truck that would meet their operational demands and so one day he fell out of bed and ...voila! Freightliner was born. Been a nightmare ever since
