I think in this line of work Murphy will in do time jump in and take care of what needs taking care of.
Can you imagine a brick falling off the trailer and landing on that guys foot? I don't think that I would be able to keep from laughing.OLDSKOOLERnWV, blacklabel, spyder7723 and 3 others Thank this. -

There is a uniform,,,, Boots, non-slip and water resistant,,,jeans or Carhart, t-shirt or long shirt, safety vest, hard hat and gloves. I know that some places will tell a driver no flip flops are allowed or shorts, so his day will come...lol
G13Tomcat and glitterglue Thank this. -
Approach him, stand next to him and talk to him EXCITEDLY about the importance of SAFETY, while tapping your winch bar in an erratic pattern really close to his tootsies.
S M D, Al. Roper, Cottonmouth85 and 5 others Thank this. -
I don't run flats anymore, but I haven't kicked the "uniform" yet. Lot of the guys I work with now wear shorts and sports shoes for comfort. I tried it for a day and just felt wrong so I went back to my long pants and steel toes.
I didn't mind shelving the hard hat though.Ok big boy and SheepDog Thank this. -
The flip flops and socks is a fashion is a no-no and a safety issue, and a paint to work in but.. ultimately:
Spend less time thinking about and judging others, and focus on your own ####. The guy making $8.30 an hour driving a forklift doesn't give a #### what you wear. The lady behind the plexiglass at the shippers office doesn't care. You're the only one who cares. The guy making $8.30/hr unloading you at home depot doesn't care either.
That said, you want me to climb on a 8'6 load, throw tarps, in blistering heat, and look professional? Collared, long sleeve shirt tucked into khaki slacks, wingtips, the whole 9 yards?Orangees, Canned Spam and blacklabel Thank this. -
Slackers...you can always spot them.
Whenever a new hand comes in talking about going into orientation and training, I alway tell them to be ready to work. That means that you have to already be in your work gear beforehand.
After getting hit twice, I throw a black shirt over the passenger seat. Denims on the floor with the belt already set. As soon as I set my feet on the floor, i can have the pants on, shirt in right hand, left hand on the door. I will catch you before you get into a forward gear.Last edited: Oct 30, 2015
