The training was great, if you do not have your cdl then they will meet & greet you the first few days in Little Rock AR. My husband decided to fly down, they will send a free bus ticket for you to them & home as needed though, but a bus would have been a 25 hour ride, & that did not sound fun. lol So, once there if u need a cdl you will be grouped up & sent via a Maverick bus to AR University where you will get about 4 weeks of class & hands on driving, lots lots lots of backing up ;) lol Then you will go back to Maverick if you passed, & do flatbed training, if you are flatbed, not sure if Reefers have that too?? but I think glass does?? My hubby is flatbed. You do map testing, & lots of things. Once you pass it all you go home one week, then you go back to start over road with a trainer about 4-5 weeks. My hubby was gone 3 months with a 1 week visit home lol But he enjoyed it :) They give you a credit card (I think it was 500.00) for all your food needs at the cdl school. (DO NOT WASTE IT) u will need it! Its enough for 1 dinner per day, they provided breakfast & lunch on weekdays. You are in walking distance of some stores & some restaurants will deliver. (if u need any food place names just ask lol) I ordered hubby food a lot ;) I also mailed him extras as needed, like gloves, n things he needed. the place you stay to go to cdl school is an old nursing home. kinda cool. :) You do laundry on site at nursing home place, & when back at Maverick. No TV's in room. they think you should be doing home work & sleeping. DO NOT EVER BE LATE FOR A CLASS! Be early ;) Hubby said it is a big deal. any medications have to be verified by a doctor, & drug tests. all in all it was a great adventure. They are very nice & seem to want you to do well.
ok, as far as money :/ All people we talk to say different. They guys doing the best take home pay have a wife that works & provides the insurance, or they have Military insurance. We can't have those so our deductions eat up our 900.00 gross. :/ They found my hubby to have sleep apnea, so we have to pay for that machine weekly, pay back twic card weekly, & taxes, health, life, dental, vision, retirement, legal plan for if he hurts anyone...ugggg 450-700 weekly deductions for ,my family. & right now is a time of year when we hear the miles & freight are not great for ANY company?! I am not sure as this is all new to us...
to be fair, you need to know I am friends with many Mav wives now, & they all tell me IF you CAN hang in there until you have been a FULL year it gets much better pay wise. We may or may not make it? but we are a family of 6. we are struggling. so, they also let you become a trainer at 1 year & you make more money that way, AND you can lease purchase their truck & become IC for them & make even better money, & I do have wives that say they are doing VERY well in the IC program. Just go & give it a shot, you may love it. I do, we just have an emergent need that may not be able to wait for the full year to be ok again. :/ bummer. well, I think that is most of it. If I can tell you anything else I will try. Good luck though :) Oh hubby just was moved into a brand new 2016 model truck & he loves it :) :) I think you will see they take great care of those trucks! lol ttyl

You'll need a big cowboy hat and rodeo belt buckle.

lol I'm glad. I can't think of any major reason you will need a lot of extra money while there, other than if u want xtra foods? The guys will make friends & go out n eat some nights. You are always close enough to a store for small needs of about anything. My hubby did not realize how fast it would get cold there when he went so he forgot a coat, lol so I mailed him one :p but that's all I can think if is be prepared for weather conditions, & take a small pillow & sleeping bag for the entire time, even while in truck with trainer. sleeping bags made it easier so you wouldn't have a sheet and a heavy blanket to stuff in bags. Take hair cutting/shaving clippers/razors. steel toes boots, at least one long sleeve, no holes in any clothing. ummmm? If I think of any other important thing i'll let ya know :) Oh my hubby had to go down under in the safe place, under Maverick because they had a tornado go through! lol Crazy! We do not have those here in WV, so that was a bit exciting for him ;) lol Have fun! He loved the adventure too! ttyl

I saw a Maverick driver in the Petro, the one by the terminal, wash his hands before eating. Problem was he was wearing those fingerless gloves and didn't take them off when he washed. Still wore them when he pigged out at the buffet. OK, I'll quit messin' around on your thread now and best wishes.
