My granddad been driving 53 years now uncle been driving 25 years so yea you see I've been around it forever. But the question is FINDING A JOB !!! I know most companies want you to be 21 and some want you to be 23 and i know I cannot go across state lines, i know all of that good stuff etc etc. So will I have any hope finding a job ?

I do believe you can do intrastate driving, withing the state of Georgia. When you turn 21, there are a few dedicated accounts in Macon that are all run by Werner, including Bass Pro.

You can probably find work driving a box or utility vehicle. They also require a CDL, and they often will hire only people who have one. There is a bus factory nearby as well, they may be able to hire under 21, intrastate drivers for delivery drivers. Truck deliveries of new trucks might be possibly, as well.

Household goods movers sometimes hire drivers helpers. Check the yellow pages for household goods movers. Some will be major companies you've heard of and some may be smaller companies.
Good idea to go to school now so you can start building time on the CDL. Some of those drivers will let you run cross country with them, but they take the steering wheel at the GA line.

There's other stuff also such as delivering building supplies or produce locally. May take some time, but you'll find something.

Oh, and how is your record? If you like heavy vehicles, there is a large tank and transport unit for the military over in Columbus, I believe.

If I was still your age, I would have absolutely gotten a few years of tank driving or motor T out of the way while age still limits advancement. Before 23-25, very little real meaningful work available. I would absolutely have enlisted in a heartbeat if I could go back in time. It would have been over in a blink of an eye. Youll be 22 or 23 and wondering why you didnt get it out of the way while you had nothing else good to do.

There is a lot more to driving a Tank or anything Military than just signing up, he would be 21 practically before he ever actually got to "drive" a Tank all the rest would be Simulators. Which if I remember correctly only a base in California does.
That's a lot of hoops to jump through if he just wants to drive a truck early.

I love Tanks too, But id much rather buy my own.. it still costs less than most new cars.

The the OP, Go look at some Dump truck outfits as well as Redi mix trucks if there are any in your area. If you already have your cdl thats going to go a long way. Most Everyone who is under 21 usually starts out driving a Dump Truck or a box delivery truck. Talking to people in those fields is going to get you there the quickest.

    Good Luck!

I would call employers first before attending school.Otherwise its a waste of money and a worthless CDL if noone will hire you.

Plenty of people will hire him, hes just got to ask around.. IMHO he would be much better off with it than without it before looking.

Forget about driving. I just did job for a little old lady. She needed her whole inside home (Tri Level) painted and Some major water damage repaired in a couple of rooms. Took 4 days, she wrote me a check for $5500.00, materials at Menards were $500.00.

One should call around first to get a general idea of how many do hire under 21.insurance companies are more stricter now then 10 yrs ago with cdl holders.then if he does find some that hire then get your cdl.
