There have been incidents where truckers have been seriously injured and even brutally murdered and yet truck drivers are not allowed to carry firearms.
It would be simple to solve, would have to get a lot if drivers to just oark their trucks for a day or more until congress passes a law enabling truckers to carry firearm for personal protection. Why is there so much talk about it but nobody's done anything about it? I care about coming home alive after being on the road over a month at a time, do you?

It's better to have it an not need it than to need it an not have it.

Try that in Massachusetts or NY. The DOT handbook doesn't prohibit weapons any more, but states laws are kinda touchy about these kinds of things. I've been to Nastyville and beyond many times and never had any problems. Never carried a gun either

They tell you it's illegal in trucking schools. I think because it's a popular question and it's the schools way of covering their butt.
Anymore if a school advised a driver to carry a gun and the driver killed someone the school could be blamed. Which is completely ridiculous but it's the world we live in.

Then you need to change companies. That won't require organizing a nationwide transportation strike in order to strong arm congress into passing legislation that suits your wishes.

Also, you are many many times more likely to die in a crash than to be executed by a raving larcenist. Why do you consider driving down the highway to be an acceptable risk but parking at a customer is not?

As I have said in these forums, my father was an OTR driver. Back in the early 70s near Elizabeth New Jersey my father was stopped at a stop sign. He was lost and trying to find a delivery point. While stopped my father saw a young girl at his door. At the same time he saw motion in his passenger side California Mirror coming from the side of the road behind the trailer. My father was armed and stuck the gun in the girls face. She screamed gun and the last my father seen was their butts running away. When this topic comes up I think about that day and wonder what might have happened had my father not been armed? I did carry some in my early days till I had an encounter with a New York DOT Officer. He asked me if I had a firearm. I said yes and showed it to him. I got it back, but took it home and left it there. Thankfully I never regretted doing that. I'm not an attorney so I won't dispense legal advise. But I rather be tried by 12 then carried by 6.
