Dont try to down play them, honesty goes a long ways. When they ask for an explanation just tell it as it happened.

I had a boss once that would have said, " Well if it was that windy, maybe you should have secured the door via bungee or strap. Knowing that it was loose and the wind was strong enough to blow the door off the latch."

And I would have said, " Look, it was an accident. "

When he would have fired back, "Yes, a preventable one."

    End of story

Companies will fire you for little things. Other companies will hire you. In my early career, I totaled two trucks and trailers. Neither of those two companies fired me. I put a two inch scuff on a tractor that would have buffed out and they fired me.

At the time, I had no idea what the he ll I was doing. 10 years later I wonder why anyone gave me a chance.

Truth is that there is a shortage of drivers and they need you more then you know. Keep applying. Someone will be stupid enough to give you another chance. Just learn from your mistakes. I bet you are a better driver now.

That's why we sometimes zip tie or wire tie the door closer. Kinda common sense if it was windy that might happen. Happen to me many times but never damage anything

Yeah but it wasn't windy when I got out to open the doors . Gust came out of nowhere now I'm the one paying the price. Seems like these companies can't see the forest through the woods when it comes to the driver shortage. Looks like they'll run decent drivers off for petty ####. I ran 2500 miles a week for a year and made them a #### ton of money but oh no!!! A dented trailer door!!!

Everybody has oopses and it's always crazy how fast a day can go from cruising listening to tunes to holy #### holy ####... Best thing I've learn is be incredibly honest about it... trucking industry is pretty tight and word flies, but unless it's a green dispatcher interviewing you, you should be able to explain it as long as you know what you did wrong. I've done it all but every time I've ####ed up I've never made the same mistake again. Makes you have respect for those old guys who have done it all.

Bungee cords are your friend. That being said 2 minor preventable shouldn't blackball you but a 3rd one might.

And most companies will tell you that minor incidents are due to lack of focus and concentration which can later turn into major incidents

By the way how long have you been driving and how far apart were the incidents?
