I could never understand why guys look to someone else or something to tell them how to rate a load. $2.68 a mile on a 300 mile multi-stop reefer load in the northeast corridor is good? Brokers are going to love you until you figure it out.

Not sure how long you been running but it's a guy that parks his truck in the same lot I do and all he runs is NE outta Florida and he's don't go up for less than 2.50 per mile and that Florida outbound rates. Lucky for him he has his on customers and a few brokers he deal with. So for short miles in the NE you need to try to quote 3.69.

I said I wouldn't take it ......it was an example I merely showed it to prove a point that I wouldn't be going out of the northeast or moving at 1.20 .....read the whole thread and you'll see my point on it....

Lucky for him he has his own customers, this is brokered spot freight...I'll try that quote but I hear a lot or phones slamming in my ear in the future......I'll move stuff at what makes ME A PROFIT or gets me somewhere that does, not what some other guy does it for......I moved a load in Denver at 5.00 a mile but it was less than 100 miles.....the company im leased to has short freight for up to 10 a mile.....less than a 100 miles and delivers next day....

OP, what's your lease take home percentage and do you know your cost of operation per mile?

Fine I'll put myself up for scrutiny ....will U?

Miles 2500 2.00 a mile (need tto average that) 7mpg fuel 2.40 (average)

5000x.75(lease %) =3750 -1200(truck,trailer insurance and Qualcomm costs) 2550-850(fuel) 1700-175(maintenance)=1525.00 to my pocket ....im happy with it ...but U might not...

I made $1500 per week when I was a company driver and now I spend my weekend nights crying if I dont get to keep at least double that after the expenses you just have posted...
Sorry, bud, but guys like you are one of the reasons the freight prices go down

Look good and hard on this site for tips on negotiation.

You publicly posted your numbers, which takes some balls. So clearly you don't have an issue "putting yourself out there"

Seeing how fast you got butthurt when someone pointed out the flaws in your plan/numbers is a weakness in negotiation. It's not personal, it's business.

The numbers you put out are representative of your lack of knowledge of working the spot market. You said yourself you're new to this, so your situation is to be expected.

As you run more you'll start to see what areas you can regularly pull a good rate out of. What areas generally have nothing of merit and should be avoided if you can't get a round trip rate/deadhead included.

I know very little about running a reefer. Forgive me to those of you that do it, but I see more flip flop fatties checking reefer fuel than any other type of wagon. Can't be that hard to figure out.
