If you've never read any of my barr Nunn threads, let me fill you in.

I've been a barr Nunn driver for almost 2 years (January will be two). I've had my up and downs but have always had a positive attitude toward barr Nunn (look at my other posts for more details).

On my thread "what's your 20" I was logging my adventures this past week, but have been omitting certain things. Not to defraud anyone but I was optimist that things would work themselves out.

This week has been simply a disaster. From loads canceling to loads taking a huge amount of time to get ready (Amazon). So bad in fact that I will miss thanksgiving once again while being with Barr Nunn.

That's not what I'm mad about, surprisingly. I'm upset about the fact how this has been handled.

When I first started with barr nunn, they would have bent over backwards to help drivers out. If you had an issue they would work quickly to resolve it.

No longer. Instead of treating me like a valued co-worker. I was simply dismissed as a whining trucker who "didn't know how trucking worked". (Been a driver for four years). Instead of trying to make me happy (wasn't asking for the moon, maybe a.. Apologie) my team leader insisted that this is how trucking worked and I should "get use to it".

After than statement I told my team leader that instead of getting me home: route to Charlotte so I can turn in my truck. Without hesitation he did.

I later talked with the supervisor of team leaders and to be honest... Was shocked on what I heard. (Parapharsing) "if you have a problem with us that's fine, we can easily hire more drivers..."

What?!? For a company that is begging drivers to get referrals and paying us thousands of dollars to do it... You're going to let a driver who has been with the company for 2 years, 100% on time delivery, go?!

Didn't try to make it right? Didn't try to maybe say "no we don't want you to go, let me try to fix it." Basically all he had to do is show me I wasn't just a number.... He failed.....

I know I'll get nic-picked with trolls but that's fine. Maybe I deserve it, but what a turn for the worse it has been.

Do I recommend barr Nunn? No, they are now just like everyone else.

I still can't completely comprehend what suddenly occurred between you and the company. The sudden long wait? Doesn't Barr-Nunn have a decent detention policy?

Sorry for your woes.it is becoming more of the norm with the big carriers. I think these things go in cycles. 2 years from now when there are not a million drivers to replace one like yourself and companies are not downsizing you might hear something different. But what probably just happened was they were told to get rid of 500 drivers.

Make sure your next job is with a quality outfit that has less than 100 trucks, and gets you home every night. Do not work for a large company ever again.

Whining drivers are a constant in this profession. However, NOBODY should be expected to stay where they are clearly not appreciated. In this case I can see why you'd be tempted to take a hike and find another company who might actually value you as an employee. Personally speaking, I know if I heard the same thing your supervisor told you about how "they can always hire more drivers", I would take that as a sign to haul butt out of there; that lack of respect is inexcusable.

I wonder if there was there a change in management? Or, maybe, the problem may be isolated to your particular division? When I was with my first carrier I actually had a decent time, but others struggled mightily elsewhere in the company; that may have been because I was lucky to have been assigned to a particularly decent fleet/team or dispatcher. Talking to drivers from other divisions in your company might reveal whether the whole company just went to crap or you just happen to be working for a particular nimrod.

If you find that nasty attitude has infected the entire office then by all means take your toys and go home. You shouldn't have to put up with that mess.

I owned and operated my company out of Ankeny IA. I have dealt with Barr-Nunn in the IMTA. There was a time about 8 years ago that they got into a financial bind and had about 250 brand new trucks sitting due to non registration. They sat for better part of a year. There were a couple of is on the board that helped them reorganize rather than borrow or go belly up. Their dry van rate was one of the lowest in the industry. Their driver wages were fair but they were operating at about an 19-23% deficit. Since then I haven't heard anything bad. As I remember the ownership was real driver friendly and and wouldn't hesitate to inform everyone in his company that the only reason they get a paycheck was because of the drivers. Since Knight bought them, I think the pisspoor driver relations from Knight has managed to find its way over to the BarrNunn brass. Mega companies give less than a #### about drivers. I don't know how long Knight intends tobhave them operate as a separate entity but I would guess not very long. Once all the debt is handled, either by payoff or bankruptcy, they will get rid of that authority paint those white trucks red (or gray) and put a new sticker on the door. No need to maintain separate dot numbers when the 2 companies are identical operation. I can't see BN having an account that won't use Knight. Good luck find a smaller carrier that has a good reputation for driver relations pays fair and follows up on what they say they will do.

It wasn't like that when I first started. As someone stated here; it was an amazing company to work for about a year and a half ago.

When Knight transportation bought them... It started to slowly change, and just built upon it. When the owners retired (about 2 months ago) that's when I felt the change, like a bag of bricks.

I don't want to come off as someone who is known for jumping jobs at the first sign of trouble, and I'll try to make it work, but from how I was treated yesterday made it absolutely clear this was now mega carrier and that I have no business being here.

---- religion talk coming, abort while you can! ------

    You've been warned,

I believe in God. Not like most (not a bible belt kinda person). I believe when we pray for strength; God doesn't give us strength but rather the opportunity to be strong. When I ask for courage, He gives me the opportunity to be courageous.

When I ask for a chance to better my life, He gives me the opportunity. That is how I choose to see this. As truckers we have sacrificed way to much: Health, relationships, and time. I believe, for me, this is God perhaps giving me the opportunity to change my life for the better.

I still have both of my GI Bills (Montgomery and post 9/11) and have enough in savings to get me by for a few months with a part time job to supplement my income I believe I'll try for my B.S. And become something I've wanted to befom sense the 6th grade: a teacher.

I thank God for this opportunity and I hope I don't waste it. Amen.
