Need a Little Advice

I saw an ad from JB Hunt advertising for an OTR position. At least I assume its OTR. I know from reading the forums that this company is very diverse in its business and your success and failure at this company depends on the account you are on. I would like some advice from former and current drivers on whether I'm wasting my time, or if this is a good opportunity. Below i'll post the position details as I got them from the career placement guy from Lowell, AR. Orientation will be in Memphis, TN. I was told I'd be delivering to DCs mainly doing retail.

License Type: Class A
Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
Sign On Bonus: 1,000.00

Average Yearly Gross: $53,800
*Miles/Week: 2200-2500

Operating Area:
MAINLY run East of I 35. ( NO NYC, No west coast, Upper Northeast )

PAY
•Cent Per Mile - $0.39-$0.41- Starting pay for all new drivers. Pay is based on verifiable experience.
•<1 year 0.39, 1 year 0.40, 2 years 0.405, 3 years 0.41.
•Annual raises - $0.05 increase annually
•Productivity Bonus - Earn up to $0.06. Paid out on a 4 week basis for total miles ran during that period. Total of 13 bonus periods a year.
•8,000 miles = $0.01, 8,5000 miles = $0.02, 9,000 miles = $0.03, 10,000 miles = $0.05, 11,000+ miles = $0.06.
•Accessorial Pay - equivalent of $0.03 of the W2 - this is calculated over time and is not figured into the cpm. examples of accessorial pay: detention pay, short haul pay, etc. Average accessorial pay is $66/week.
•Maximum Total Pay (base pay, bonus, accessorial figured) - New Drivers < 1 year exp 48 cpm New drivers 3+ years exp 50 cpm Max Potential 52 cpm

TIME OFF
•12 days out 2 days off - out a minimum of 12 days and home for the weekend. They can choose to stay out longer and earn 1 day at home for every 7 days out (21/3, 28/4, etc.)

•Can take truck home for time off.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Drivers hired by 12/28 will be guaranteed a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia!
•Drivers will haul random freight to various established customers East of I 35 ( Dallas Area ) with a consistent freight base.
•Drivers will typically not go any farther North than PA
•No Canada.
•75 % Drop & Hook
•no touch freight..
•Next load is preplanned in advance to allow time for proper trip planning.
•100% Elogs.
•All trucks are equipped with Navigo, Drivewyze, and XM Radio.
•Passengers allowed, no fee!!!

Additional Details:

•In order to cover the increase in freight that we are experiencing, the expectation for new drivers in orientation is that they will be ready to take a truck assignment upon completion of orientation. It is our intention to get all drivers assigned to a truck at the end of the week.
•Drivers need to bring their gear with them ready to roll for at least a few days. We will route them by the house but that could take a few days after orientation

ADDITIONAL PAY DETAILS

Transition Assistance Pay -$1000 paid out as $150 a week for the first 4 weeks and $400 after 90 days. Must be in class by week of 12/28 in order to receive payouts. First installment will pay out after 7 days hired AND first dispatch.

2500 miles X $0.39 =$975 + $68 ($0.03 accessorial pay) + $125 ($0.05 productivity bonus) = $1168 X 52 weeks = $60,772 average W2.

Do NOT sign up for OTR under any circumstances!! I am a current driver on a dedicated account and have done jb hunt's version of otr and it is horrible. DCS and intermodal are the 2 segments that provide good wages with intermodal being the best.

I agree with dgarricksr. The was once a place for the OTR driver with JB but day has long passed. The OTR drivers I have come across are usually picking up the freight the Intermodal can't cover or there isn't OTR freight at the moment. And trust me, there is no more of a miserable creature than seeing an OTR driver in the rail yard. I am not knocking them and I honestly feel for them. To be thrust into a rail yard, not having idea where to go or what to do, I'd be miserable too.

If DCS or Intermodal is something you don't want to do, depending on your area, there might be a Regional option for you. You should ask about that.
