Are the enclosed type like this worth the extra $$$ or should I just get an open one with chain holders for 1/3 the cost?

How often will you leave your truck parked, how many times can you pay to replace chains? boxes keep things out of sight.

I agree with baha. Years ago, you'd NEVER think of stealing anything from a flatbedder. ( usually were pretty stout men) Today, I'd get the enclosed one. Also, in the snow, you'll be chipping your chains out of the ice, all stuck together.

What's the price difference? My chains and binders are all rust up and it's in the open. I have them lock 24/7 so,I'm not worry about people stealing them. But of course if they really want them, they can use bolt cutters.

If I was going to steal chains, I wouldn't care if they are rusted.

only thing locks are good for is keeping an honest man honest anyway, thieves see something they want they dont care hwat it takes to get it, on the other hand a box rack does help with side box storage, you know its alot of truckers got stuff crammed in every crevice of them side boxes, and toolboxes

The one pictured is the actual picture of one for sale used locally. The guy had ir less than a year and wants $1,800. They are $2,800 new. The open style can be bought new for around $900 I believe.
