I see that, on some of the trailers (other companies).
I never shut the trailer off and never had a problem.

You'll only have to have a problem ONCE and you wont ever do it again....same as running one out of fuel...just gonna take you even LONGER to get it refired--and going to require new filters and bunch of xtra labor......and if you don't know what to do when it clogs so and YOU can't get it working...then you'll get sent to a TK shop.....and they are going to know exactly what the problem is and how it happened....and then there is going to be a substantial bill...and of course next we will see a post on here asking why your boss thinks YOU should pay for the repairs and any other charges due.......and why you should be responsible....;)

Just out of curiosity why do you need to do this?

Fuel at truckstop islands is typically very hi flow.....as you fill the reefer tank.....it basically violently stirs up everything in the tank.....including all the sediments on the bottom...the reefer running continues to draw fuel and there is a likelihood of dragging dirt etc thru the fuel lines.....as the fuel line enters the unit.....first the fuel passes thru a small screen.....then a bowl style(in most units) smaller filter....before it passes thru the main fuel filter.....the screen actually clogs relatively easily&so on......by shutting the unit off....it does not draw fuel....so there isn't any chance of this happening.....and by the time you cap the tank....hang up the hose turn on the unit&it preheats......by the time it fires everything settles back down......and although you may get away with it for years....if you do happen to clog up the system.....you're in for a major PITA...

A guy told me that when I first started runnin reefer...quite honestly it's no hair off my nutz to shut it off and the way olhand explains it reinforces why it's good practice. Thanks chief.

your company will tell and show you everything which still will be alot to consume which is why you'll get a operating instruction booklet.one thing you must never forget, when dropping trailer always make sure reefer tank is full otherwise the customer will not accept the load till you go fill it.

Thanks to everyone for the great tips and hints, it seems like I have a lot to learn about refers, well I always say that I want to learn something new everyday.

Please keep the hints/tips/tricks coming. Anything I can learn by reading rather than screwing it up myself is a bonus.
