No contact lenses for tanker drivers?

Sounds like a company policy. If you get chemicals in yer eyes the contacts can keep it from being washed out and can result in more damage

 

They told me it's because some of the chemicals could melt the contact to your eyeball.

It's definitely company policy, prolly same with many others that do hazmat.

I hauled non-hazmat chemicals after my time at Schneider Bulk, they never said a word about it, even at the big chem plants.

I wouldn't let a silly thing like that stop me tho, I just wore the glasses for a year and moved on,, no biggie

 

That's pretty much standard; chemicals will wind up between your lenses and eyeball, and you're screwed.

 

I remember before I started hauling HAZ-MAT chemicals that it was a company policy thing.(not w/Schneider)... Bought 2 pair of prescription safety glasses for about $300 (tax write-off).
But was also told --- NO CONTACTS--

 

I used to do work at Mississippi Lime, in Missouri, and in their safety spiel video they stated you couldn't wear contacts. The first time there was four of us and we all looked at each other, as three of us were wearing contacts, and kinda chuckled.

 

That's the biggest waste of 15 minutes I ever had to endure, just to drive around and under a hopper and get honked at.

 

you do need eyewear with tanks.try another company that uses goggles.

 

You have to wear safety glasses in flatbed too...atleast at some customer
