In that situation I would actually manually switch to line 3. Why? Because if I don't manually switch it then what the system does is create a checkpoint after 3/4 of a mile or whatever and then what it does is back time me from the moment I started rolling. Meaning all the time waiting for the gate to open, the red light to change etc.
So I would just stay off duty till I got to the gate or the red light then log line 3. Now I've created a new checkpoint and I have 4 minutes to change back to off duty. A manual switch always takes precedence over the automatic one so essentially all you are doing is resetting the countdown if you will. It's sounds counter intuitive but it works on most systems.
Now what may be different is your companies parameters. Perhaps the distance to triggering the auto is longer, perhaps it's by speed, perhaps they don't back time you. You just have to play with the stupid thing till you know exactly how to work it. Its a machine you have to find the way to game it.

Maybe we should offer a compromise. Ok they get e-logs, but the bunks come off the trucks and everybody goes home at 5 o'clock for their quality home time. Let them figure out how to make it all work from there. Oh ya, and they pay us by the hour. Probably get lots of support from the Truckload Carriers Assc for that I'm sure.Cottonmouth85 Thanks this.

I will agree that the Anti Trucker Association and the the Truckload Communist Association along with the unscrupulous Alliance for Driver Safety and Security (so-called) have been the prime movers behind the ELD thing. They have their agenda. How it all plays out over time is anyone's guess. But one thing for certain, anyone who has ever played patty fingers with the political class usually ends up getting their fingers bit off. The political class always turns on and devours even their allies at some point. History is replete with examples. While on the surface it may seem to the ATA, TCA, etc that there is a mutual goal of safety, more likely that the political class has a totally different and worse agenda and is just using the trucking groups as useful idiots to advance their agenda. Once the trucking groups no longer serve the Political class purpose and vision for how things should be, they will be tossed aside like a rag doll. Just watch closely over time and see how this plays out. I think this is a clear example of Machiavellian philosophy being played out right before our eyes.
The Admiral and thejackal Thank this. -
That's why elogs are now law.daf105paccar Thanks this.

You are actually serious? I would have just moved the truck and forgot about it. I have done it all the time on e-logs. 10 hr break unaffected. at the most, I might switch to off duty for the cross the parking lot thing, then back to sleeper. It really doesn't matter. A 10 hr break does not demand 10 hrs in the sleeper. Anyone beyond truck driving school knows that. You are just being ridiculous and the comment looks stupid.

The new elog parameters are going to take away short movements. As soon as the brakes are pushed in, the unit goes On Duty and as soon as the GPS determines the unit moved one hiccup in space, the unit records Driving.
Studebaker Hawk Thanks this. -
That was sarcasm

That small space can be rectified by the company

if that driver followed orders, he is the dumb one. its illegal to force a driver into driving in those situations, and its illegal for that driver to follow those illegal ordersrholl32 Thanks this.
