i have a 2000 peterbilt 387 and the heater control is not working [ cold to hot switch on the dash that controls the temp in the cab] its hot all the time unless i turn the water valves off on the motor .... i have talked to peterbilt about this and they say it is more then likely the actuator on the blead door but it sits just under the windshild they say oh just take out a few bolts and pull the whole heater box down ...this is my question is it really that easy????

The temp-control, fresh-air, and bunk actuators are all the same,(spendy). I think there are 2 on each side 1 in the middle on top, and it should come right off. 1/2 hour on '05 with same problem. My window works pretty good for fresh air.

My 2006 387 did this and my 2011 587 does this as well. It's an obvious flaw that Peterbilt could care less about.

MAke sure nothing dropped down from the dash and is blocking the actuator door. Happened on my T-2000.

Inside a black duct box mounted on the firewall in the engine compartment. Had a few replaced and only saw them work on it from a distance so I'm not sure of the specifics. Beats the heck out of tearing the dash apart.

There is the one right on top in the middle, like you said. Thats the recirculation actuator, at least on my Pete 387. But would you happen to know how to change the one that's literally right under the window to the right of the one you mentioned? If you look, there are 2 t screws you can remove but because the window is flush against it, I am wondering how one can change it. I tried everything except removing the entire assembly. I even removed the blower fan and stuck my arm into the vents and manually opened the blend door since I couldn't remove that actuator. So its stuck open for now but of course it wont close. Any ideas? I live about 100 miles from nearest dealer. Thanks.

On my 2006 387 the recirculation actuator is on the top right of the HVAC box and that one is readily accessible. The blend door (temperature control) actuator is the one in the center of the HVAC box partially under the windshield. In order to get to that one you need to slide the entire HVAC box out (forward) about 4", which is actually pretty easy. Then it's just a matter of taking out the three torx head screws and pulling off the motor cover and pulling out and replacing the actuator motor and putting cover back on.

I had to replace the blend door actuator about 6-months ago and as I recall there are two bolts towards the bottom front of the box and there are two studs and nuts at the top of the box right under the windshield. Once those four nuts and bolts are removed, the box will slide out without too much trouble. And with my C-15 I was able to put a 2x4 block on top of the engine valve cover and under the HVAC box to hold it up while I slid it out. Then after replacing the actuator motor, you just slide the box back in and replace the nuts and bolts.
