Why do 80% of drivers dress like bums?

Nah man I'm with the OP on this one. While I don't particularly worry about the dress per se, it's more of a slovenly attitude that sort of affects all of us as a whole. I take pride in my job and in my self, and it's embarrassing being lumped in the same group as the slob with the dirty sweats and flip flops with socks.

The other thing to consider is that trucking is hard. If you feel good about yourself (shave, shower, clean teeth, clean clothes) you're gonna feel better about what you do, it's a trickle down effect. Life is hard enough as it is without goin through it stacking the deck against yourself by bein too lazy or stupid to take pride.

Look at old pics of our grand dads. Mine wore a button down shirt, dress slacks, a tie, and a fedora every day of his life. He drove a school bus and cleaned hallways for a living. Greatest man I've ever know, next to my dad. I'm tellin ya...self respect is where it's at.

Could be any number of things. Can't afford new stuff, don't care enough, their line of haul ruins new clothing quick...

I'm prone to a T-shirt, jeans and boots... I don't look like a fashion model, but I'm comfy for sitting in that seat for any number of hours.

 

Yes, but your not wearing flip flop and sweat pants. Kind of like the college trend of let's wear our pajamas to class things. Seriously? If you can't change out of your pajamas to go to class how the heck are you "mature enough" to get a job and have people take you seriously?

I spent two days trying to find overalls so that I could keep my clothes clean while doing flatbed work but they are harder to find than one might think.

 

I'm not the guy who is dressed like what was described but I also never judge someone by the way they dress. And I could care less how a truck driver is viewed in this world of idiots. Worrie about your self people!

Maybe 80% of them do not have $80.

 

Because every day is laundry day on the road, and I'll just wait for tomorrow

 

I always shake my head at the ones in Pajamas and crocs at Shippers and receivers.

 

My advice is to never kick tires when you're wearing flip-flops.
