I was asked by a new hire how I can manage to stay awake through my cercadian rythm or some such thing... and he continued on about techniques he has heard, like seatbelt tests, coffee on eyelids, on and on. I had to ask what the F' is a seatbelt test? You try to jump up out of your seat so fast your seat belt locks. WOW I don't think that's such a great idea, but okay buddy. Then I about fell out of my chair laughing when he explained spitting at your mirror.

I don't suggest any method other than the one that gets you to the next exit, but this was too funny not to ask what other crazy ways you've heard of to stay awake.

I've never heard of any of those things. I'd say, if you need more than a strong cup o' joe to say awake, it's nap time. Half hour nap can work wonders for brightening you back up. Tricks and games to stay awake probably isn't a great idea as a long term night shift strategy.

When I feel I am tired I pull over. A quick nap does wonders.

One time I was coming from Chicago back to Texas and I got really sleepy. I was 100 miles from home and couldn't stay up so I pulled over and slept a couple hours and continued on. Most people say that is crazy that close to home but I didn't feel safe.

I done that too. But more like 50 to 70 miles away. Plus after parking the truck I have to drive home in my pov. So why risk it, not like I have an appointment time to be home

i did the same thing only I was less then fifty miles from home.pulled into a rest area and three hrs later I woke up with just enough time to make it home.I was so tired I forgot to change my duty status.reason I suddenly got tired was cause I had a smoothy.

Yup, if I'm doing night driving, I have this night shade thingy I wear over my eyes, kinda helps. I thought about sleeping meds or night quill but kinds feel unethical
