I have 17 months experience all with the same carrier who hired me shortly after obtaining my cdl. 2 weeks ago I had an incident at a load facility that led to my termination later that day. Small accident while backing that ruined my fl steer tire. I have no accidents or tickets but have been turned down by several carriers because the applications ask why you left your last job. One specifically asked if it was safety related. JB disqualified me within the first 30 seconds of the call. They said I would have to drive for someone else 12 months incident free and apply again. Any idea how to get around this? Isnt their some threshold? Texas is employment at will. If your employer wants to sack you for a small safety infraction they could catch you any day of the week.

I'm really sorry to hear that. This is why there is no need to be loyal to any company. You have one minor problem and you get burned. This job is very difficult at times and dangerous. Then your going to get the perfect two year drivers on here saying " Well you should have done this and you should have done that" It's all your fault your careless and a poor driver. Things happen out here I work in NYC I have a number of close calls every single day. These things can happen to anybody at anytime. With some luck I would try and see if you can get on with an owner op to weather the storm. I hope that you find something soon. Good luck to youTallTexan Thanks this.

U sure it was an small incident? Usually companies have a max of 3 until they reject you, what happen? Hit a curb and it blew? That's nothing serious. Roll your steers onto a Cement pole, catching your tie rod and ripping your own steer out?

The scale operator asked me to back up and pull to the left. My front left steer got caught on the angle iron on the edge of the scale and ripped a 6" gash. After the tire was replaced I was instructed to return the yard where i was terminated after going over the incident with management. No other damage to my truck or the scale.

That's too bad,things far worse happen in this industry.you think maybe the load facility called your company and said something to your company that prompt them in to fireing you?

No i had just had a review done by my manager that listed me as satisfactory.

When applying or interviewing with other companies are you describing this as a "small" or "minor" incident? If you are that could be part of why you're getting rejected. Not to sound rude or incensitive but in my short years on this site the guy who isn't paying for the damage always describes it as small or minor. In fact I can't recall a post where a guy admitted that screwing up bad.
My advice would be to own the mistake and make it known that you have learned from it. Best of luck driver!

Sounds to me like you believe "honesty is the best policy".
Quit telling on yourself. Make the trucking companies find out what happened. Many former employers wont even reply back to companies that request info on former drivers.
Check your DAC to see what shows on record and quit talking.
