    I let employers tell me how to drive while we are in a class or safety meeting. But when I get in the truck I drive like I always have. Been driving 32 years. 3 million miles safe driving awards. I know things change. But my DAC report isn't if I can help it. I leave the house in one piece and get home safe. If you re a brand new driver maybe it would be beneficial to learn their way since its already all new to you. It was all new to me when I started.

    Nothing wrong with progressive shifting but each truck has it's own sweet spots. Mine is a little rev to 17k pop out and pop back in before it drops to 12k.

    Progressive and double clutching is a skill needed to demonstrate for officials and other personnel who can put a truck out of service or suspend or fire the driver.

    When in a truck by oneself do what feels comfortable and safe.

    In traffic I drag no less than 8k and rarely on a downhill do I let the rpm pass 15k. I tend to start driving in 3rd gear and usually am not allowed the dignity to progressively downshift in traffic since Bay Area drivers behave as though trucks are made of paper and can stop on a dime. I drive the Bay Bridge to San Francisco so outside of owning an automatic I try to minimize the foot work so I don't go out on disability.

    If I am pulled into inspection and not "cruising the tower" at the scale I am progressive shifting and dotting every damnable "i."

    17k = 17,000.......the "k" stands for thousands......if using the "k" it should have been 1.7k

    First off when I made this post I ment to say lug the motor to 1000 or 1200 not 2000 rpm. Sorry for the confusion.

    Yep sorry so used to writing "k" not "c." My gage 0-30 with a really little note that says rpm x 100 so you are correct.

    You can still lug low like that in gears reverse thru 3 but I can't see doing that while driving. I'm talking less than 6C. I lug around the port in 2nd like that and anything less I ghost float or skip over/under. Some of these port hogs like to throw it in high and try to fly around me or thru my truck until they almost smack into a Union Steward and get kicked out.

    1000 or 2000 is a huge difference. If I'm maxed out I shift at 1600rpm and try not to lug it. Even the cdl book says not to lug and engine. If you lug it during the driving test you get points off.

    Mighty Mouse Thanks this.

    Sorry you're wrong. I have a lot of respect for you but I have driven and worked on everything from 1980s to brand new 2016s and have never seen a diesel do 10,000 rpm. Again not trying to be rude. Also do you drive around Chicago alot? I swear I see a rig just like yours all over the north east Chicago.

    Yeah I realize that later on, @ajohnson correct me. I live in chicago, so maybe you saw me. I take my truck home with me. I park it north by wi border so usually take 94 or 294 to get home

    Dominick253 Thanks this.
