So last week I had a trainee who always wanted to jack knife in a spot and it'd take him forever. Personally I try to set up my backups so they're as small of an angle as possible. Most times I setup so I just back straight into a spot. So I just wanted to see how everyone else likes to back into spots.

Same. No sense making it harder than it needs to be.

If you have time why not practice and make it a little harder on yourself, that way when you have no room to maneuver or do a straight back you're prepared.

For a trainee they should probably do an alley dock as much as possible. However once they are done with training they should understand that a straight back is easier and should be the preferred method.

I used to do things "the hard way" but I look back at it as a waste of time. Do it the easiest, safest and most efficient way possible.

I challenge myself every chance it it is feasible. Not at busy places or truck stops.

Its been my experience that you should get that trailer on that dock as soon as you can. Other drivers need to get by and some of those switch truck drivers have short tempers. I know drivers have to learn how to do this. However a bit of wisdom is also in order.

I do the same, limit the angle of the tractor trailer. Mainly so I can see my blindside. There's time I had to jack the trailer hard, but it's to get it set up to go in the hole. Never would I jackknife and attempt to back it in like that.

We were at 12 hours with another two to go and he took twenty attempts to make it. Then the next day I told him to practice in an empty lot but he was too lazy. So I just gave up on him. Really irritated me that I went out of my way to train him and he wouldn't even try... Oh well he already missed three days of work on his second week so I don't think he'll last. He claimed three years of experience and from what I've seen he's never backed up a 53'.

I tried to have him do that the next day. He wouldn't practice and ####ed around cutting his fingernails for 45 minutes... Some people aren't worth the breath.
