see themm more and more, delivering empty containers to be used as storage
Dominick253 and RERM Thank this. -
it's an empty going to a storage place, I see them daily in the Denver area
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
First time seeing that. Usually see them on chassis or flatbeds, like flatbed flatbed, not hotshot flatbed -_-
peterbilt_2005 and Dominick253 Thank this. -
I have seen them a lot lately, many companies are using them for cheap labor out of the nyc,nj area going to the west and south since theres not much freight for hotshot in this area... but doesn't matter how many straps they put in there I try to stay away from them in the highway
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
I've been seeing tow trucks hauling them as well. I figured they used the winch to load the container where a flatbed would need a crane or forklift to load. I always thought those were empties being returned. Guess I was wrong.

BTW, let's see who answers this, what's piggybacks paying these days ? Back in the days (very early 80's)when became an O/O, I myself tried it and thought I was making big bucks, BOY.....was that a big wake up call. After that, bought my first skateboard and never looked back. For one local skateboard load I loaded, transported, and delivered in less than half day, was equivalent to working 12 hours at the rail. That was like hauling 4 piggybacks.

Depends on the part of the country, the carrier's policy and the situation. I know L/O's that are making 75% to the truck, but relying on the company for everything but bobtail insurance, and I know O/O's (independents that use the company only for the SCAC code and to act as a broker) that carry all their own insurance and DOT # that are making 95% to the truck. I know guys getting $5,000 settlement checks for 5 days work, and guys getting $2,500 settlement checks for 5 days work.

How do the trailer brakes work on that kind of set up? Or...are there brakes?
Those things scare the hell out of me, especially between 12 and 4 am.
