There's nothing you can do, you probally new this was required when you started. If your a local driver, your gonna have to know how to yard jockey at some point. Only downside is management will never take responsibilty for any mistakes. It always goes to the yard jockey.

Especially when there's 12'' of snow. I'll bet he'll love that jockey position on that day.

I had one company assign me day cab duty for a couple of days while my truck was getting fixed. It was simple. Run over to the local Carroll plant, pick up loads of flour, and bring them out to the warehouse, four loads a days, all drop and hook using "shuttle only trailers". Only had to drive a few miles, day cabs had automatics, in cab 5th wheel release, I got hourly pay. It beat sitting around waiting for the dealership to get done fixing my truck. If I lived around that area it would've been the dream job.

Yard Jockey/Spotter Driver, what ever you want to call it, is about as easy as it gets. You hook up to a trailer, lift up with 5th wheel, move to a location as requested, drop, wash, rinse, repeat. If you work at a high volume distribution plant, it makes the day go fast, IMO. If you work at a low volume, where only 1 move an hour is made, which is what I think the OP's situation is, it can make you day go pretty slow.

Yard trucks are computerized nowadays. They have screens that displays the move's needed to be done. You either hit accept, or decline, and once done, hit complete, and go to your next move. Every move is stored in the computer, so there is no discrepency if any mistakes were made. Not like the old days where you use a 2 way radio, and if mistakes were made, it was a he say, she say thing, and it always wound up being the yard jockey's fault.

When you were hired the paperwork probably said something like..."and other duties as assigned". Hey, they're not making you clean toilets or sweep floors so suck it up and deal with it. Look at all the backing practice you're getting.
We don't have a full time yard jockey but on Fridays...before their weekend starts...some of our guys will gladly do it just to get off at a reasonable hour or to fill out what might have otherwise been a short week.. They get their regular hourly rate plus if they're already over forty hours for the week they get overtime.
No shortage of drivers who will do the yard chores at our place.
