ive dabbled in the flatbed biz a little over the years but never got to serious about it until recently preffering to stay under a reefer and run from omaha to the nyc area until i quit smoking and realized im getting fat and need to start exercising but im to lazy to exercise unless im getting payed for it lol.
so when i moved from montana back to omaha i had some choices to make ? and bought a pre emissions truck and stumbled on to a flatbed contract that pays well on a dedicated lane .
1. the rates are very good and no brokers .
2. no appointments
3. a great class of people to deal with overall
4. i get exercise .
5.no meat docks , no grocery warehouses or general bad tudes .
6. no nyc or LA.
DOWNSIDES .
1. its dirty hot work .
2. muddy somtimes
3.plan on washing your truck alot .
4. and you will get dirty !
what i love about flatbedding

I like not having to do deliveries at night.
there's room to grow, you can start with flatbed, move onto oversize loads, RGN, heavy haul, etc. -
yeah no more jersy and nyc meat docks at 3 or 4 in the morn , i almost feel a sense of guilt when i pull into a pick or drop at 10 am , maybe i need reefer survivers counseling lol.
IH Truck Guy and Al. Roper Thank this. -
That is a great thing about flatbedding is very few places require an appointment. I've learned to love it that past couple years. Once I pounded it into my head that tarping should be looked at as just part of the job then it clicked for me.

You forgot to mention how much you like to throw tarps
bzinger Thanks this. -
I prefer the idea of load and go and unload. The heck with tarps.
2 weeks ago i hauled 20 foot angle steel. Double stacked so i only had to use one sheet of ice to tarp it. Snow and rain the entire trip.
It rained and snowed and froze. Instead of having 4 rolled tarps. I had 4 blocks of ice stuck together as one big block. -
Driver, you need to stop. You really need to stop. Don't you know that there are a bunch of fat, effeminate, limp wristed sidewalk sissy types in the trucking industry that absolutely hate everything in their life, and they blame the transportation industry. Yep, some fat and effeminate is blaming an 18 for the reason he is fat and effeminate and unhappy. Then all of a sudden, your insensitive arse starts a post about how much you like your job.
Are you not sensitive to the plight of the sidewalk sissy? For shame, driver. For shame! How dare any of you take pride in your craft!!! How dare you! Do you not know that somewhere out there, some weakling of a fatboy, is hating life and wants the goobermint to step in and make his life better? Can you not sense the dispair? Nooooo, not Mr Happy Camper. Do you not know how difficult some people, whose toughest part of the day is when he tries to wipe his butt and his wrists keep giving out?
No, you are not considerate at all. You don't walk around with half a mudslide stuck on Uranus, so you really wouldn't have any idea what they go through. I give up. I think I will just go have a beer.
"It's too heavy. I cannot tarp."
