Thats what I do to, but since it got so cold here it wouldn't spread on very well so I'm going to try a can of JT6 spray on grease till it warms up a little.

Give a little hint to you guys. I have been around large vessels my whole life and never thought about applying marine grade grease instead of universal until a guy in Texas told me thats what he uses. I used it ever since on my 5th wheel because it last nearly twice as long. Marine grade grease does not absorb water or condensation and thats what deteriorates grease. Not friction. Only about a dollar or two more a tube at any Napa

If you have an airbag suspension, dump the air to lower the 5th wheel height, grease up the 5th wheel and back under til just about before the kingpin. May have to get out and look a couple times to make sure you don't 'high hook'. Air up suspension and back in with the grease exactly where it belongs.

I had an old pump grease gun my father gave me. I always got a can or 2 from a mechanic when I was in a terminal. Since I did a lot of drop&hooks I would back my 5th wheel just at my trailers king pin and would always put a small amount on my 5th wheel if I felt it needed any, which was most of the time.

This also reminds me of something that happened to me in Ohio. I went in to a shipper bobtail thinking I was going to get a loaded trailer. I did as described above but the yard man told me to see the shipping clerk because they needed to alter the load. I had fresh grease on my 5th wheel headed to the hotel I was going to stay at. While on the way there an Ohio State Trooper slipped in behind me and a good plug of that grease landed on the front grill, hood and windshield of his car. He pulled me over and I cleaned as much of that grease off as I could. He was a good sport and both of us laughed about it all.

So do I because a lot of those guys don't like truckers and do everything they can to make life miserable for you. This guy was a sgt and was kind of laid back. I was wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey and he told me he was a fan too. I went back got a roll of paper and started cleaning. He got out a bottle of glass cleaner and I cleaned his glass. He treated me with respect and I in turn showed him respect.

Lower your airbag, until it's sits just beneath the trailer, once your under raise the air suspension back up and fully back under trailer

So I have the stupid question of the day. What happens to the plastic bag? Just stays in there? Works it's way out and litters the road? Gets inside the locking jaws jamming things up?

The cellophane they used to use pretty much disintegrated into the grease.
