Boomtown, NV.
I was headed to the Petro and realized that I haven't been at Boomtown for decades.
Actually, I've only ever been here once before. I'll give it a try, since I just got paid.
This new computer sure is nice, but I'm not crazy about Windows 10.
My main complaint is with Windows Update because it forces you to download and install, and I've yet to find a solution to give me some control over the process.
In the couple days I've had it, it has eaten through 5GB of my data plan of 20GB.
But during the last download my data line was maxed out and it errored out. It still shows an error, with a major download coming up next, and it hasn't tried to recover from it.
Maybe that is the way to stop it? Ha ha on MS if it is.

Actually windows 10 is probably one of the better ones.... Here you go ask and you shall receive....but if you hate MS why not get a MAC?

Moosetek13 Thanks this. -
Thanks Luse.
I set my connection to metered.
There was another suggestion on a Microsoft forum to disable the Windows Update service, which I did just a bit ago.
When I went back to check on Windows Update it said my system was up to date, and it had a new button for 'Check for Updates'.
If I click it, it will automatically download any available updates.
Between the two, hopefully this problem is resolved.
I'll observe it for a few days to see what happens.
Like, if the Update service suddenly turns back on by itself.
And after having it for a few days I agree that it isn't a bad OS.
Much of what I hated so much in Win8 has been fixed.
But MS still wants more and more control over our computers and lives.
I don't want a Mac. Never have.
I guess I'm too familiar with PC's.
They are cheaper and much easier to upgrade, and have a better software base.
I would rather switch to Linux than go with a Mac.
I've been using Linux Mint for some time and I've been very happy with it.
My next step is a larger hard drive so I can dual boot with Mint. I'll probably do that on my next home time. -
Still here. After a few really crap plans, like pick up and take to Toledo, OR and then pick up for a t-call in Lathrop for Friday, and then pick up a t-called one in Troutdale and take to Toledo, OR and then finally pick up in the morning and go to Boise for Friday morning and was told that they are short trucks right now in Boise, took that one. My DM says that he is working on getting me one of the loads out of there for Texas for Monday and then work my way to Phoenix and arrive a day late for home time. Now just hoping that the system does not screw me over, give me a nice one and tell me to t-call in SLC on the weekend and then get one to Phoenix for Tuesday and end up with 1300 miles for the week. I can see that happening.

Squeak you need to tell the Planners I am making meatloaf and apple pie (maybe cake), so you need to get to AZ.

Winnemucca, NV.
A live unload this morning and then a live load this afternoon.
The first was fast, the second a bit slower.
Not a big deal because there is time on this load. I deliver near Chicago on Monday morning, so about 1800 miles over the next 4 days.
I'm really glad that the weather forecasts are good.
My new Windows 10 computer is giving me fewer problems now that I've learned how to control the automatic updates. And I'm getting a handle on how the Nvidia/Intel graphics work.
It's strange having two separate graphic chips working at the same time, as some things are controlled by each. I have to specify which engine is used for each program, and some seem to be Intel only so I can't simply turn off the Intel side. The basic desktop environment is controlled by the Intel side, as are some programs.
And I can't use the Nvidia Control Panel unless the Intel side is working.
Windows 10 seems to be a respectable OS compared to Windows 8 - or any other version of Windows. I've pretty much rules out going back to Win7, and probably won't even bother to dual boot with Linux.
Win7 can't support my new Skylake CPU at any rate, and all the newer security features would be lost if I went back.
Linux was a fallback because I hated Win8 to such a degree, plus I sometimes like to try new Linux distro's to see where they are. Mint is pretty sweet, and that is what I will go back to if the Win10 experience goes south.
Going to Win10 feels like it did like when I went from XP to 7.
SO much better than the last couple versions, or the current XP.
I stuck with XP when Vista came along, and Vista was one of the odd ones out. One of the bad ones, much like ME. The problems were never solved until the next version.
Just like 8 and 8.1.
It seems Microsoft rarely delivers 2 good major upgrades in a row.
I'm wondering about the missed OS... Windows 9.
That was completely left out, and they went with version 10.
Was it like I sometimes gamble?
Playing Blackjack I will sometimes hit, or stay, knowing that I will lose that hand.
Hit in a solid 18 hoping for a 3 or less, or stay on a soft 13.
And the point is to simply change the card stack to something more in my favor.
Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. -
Hmmmm interesting on the I 20 midland Odessa area surprised the weigh station was open but the just waved off me and all the otr trucks but going over heavily the oil services trucks..... Guess it's a crack down for them

Something I noticed with Win8.1 is that I can't tile windows. LIke I used to be able to have a webpage open with a little notepad open within that and a calculator window beside that or maybe a message app open within that as well. Win8, if I want the calc, it is a full page deal or if I want notepad, it is again full page. I liked the old way where i could see the numbers to put in the calc from the notepad notes right there rather than switching back and forth and trying to remember all the numbers to put in. I'm sure there is a way to tile it all but it shouldn't be rocket science territory to do it.
With the multicard auto shuffle decks it is truly random card draws. Basic strategy works best with one deck Blackjack. Then that becomes a problem because if they see you counting cards they kick you out. Forever.
My game is Craps. Lately been hitting black cloud tables. Dice are going against me so I switch up and play the Dark Side and again the dice go the other way. Sometimes makes me wonder if i am in their little black book and they switch on the table magnet to force me to lose no matter where I put my bets.
Oh yeah, Sterling VA. Lots of snow cleanup going on, roads are nice and clear. Docks were so fouled up with piles of snow, I had to blindside back into the dock. Decent last couple loads-- this one was from LIvermore CA to Nashville TN to Sterling VA. Previous week was two loads adding up to over 3000 miles as well.Moosetek13 Thanks this. -
You on that truck load plus deal with rrts or still doing terminal to terminal?
-
Still on LTL. Applied a few months ago to get on truckload plus but the recruiter said he forgot to submit my app. Then he said he did submit it but it was denied due to my lease being negative. Told him I own my truck, what lease? then he said they are not taking anybody else on truckload plus.
Freight seems to have picked up for me now anyway on the LTL side, RR has stopped helping IC's with breakdowns and a lot of them are quitting when they breakdown.fr8monkey Thanks this.
