One of these years I'll make it to MATS. We may have 6 digit trucks by then but one of these years.

I will actually be leaving my truck @ home and driving the personal car down with the wife
-
Is that when you are doing orientation too? If so, you will need the truck there.jacquesi23 Thanks this.

i have a couple questions for some of the old hands on here I been trucking a quite a few years sold my older truck while back took some time off I been approved for mercer for a while and they have been so good being patient with me till I buy another truck which rates are down now hopefully it will get little better and I have read about all these pages on here can a man make two thousand to 2200 payments on new truck working the short haul fleet plus trailer deal there at mercer which is best iv have found really but any honest input I shore would be thankful because I got to get started back in couple weeks or so
-
I don't work strictly short haul, but most of my runs are under 300 miles. I do a few longer ones and when the $ is right I'll go coast to coast. But the short answer is yes. Now I have to be honest I learned the system with no payment and although I've made enough from day one that I could have done it, I might have been a little nervous trying some of the things I tried. Also the market was just a hair better when I started. I know I wouldn't want to learn the system with that hanging over my head. Best of luck to you sir. It can be done here.
-
thanks yeah that's what im a little concerned about is there system the learning curve part for them but that comes with where ever ya go but as long as I can plug along a little and work steady hopefully it will work out
-
As long as you have a monthly payment and not a weekly one and you are good with your money you should be OK. Not saying that it can't be done with a weekly payment, just that I don't want to work every week.
The system is simple most people just are not willing to change how they do things. As long as you know that the Mercer way will not be like your old way and don't try and make it like that you can pick it up fast. And once you do it's pretty smooth sailing.roshea Thanks this. -
There isn't a right or wrong answer to your question, because it all depends on your personal situation. Do you have high payments at home, can you survive if you have a rough few weeks, do you have a wife & children at home? Everyone's situation is not the same. A $2200/month truck payment plus $535-$685/month trailer payment is quite a bit to have to overcome every month. People overcome it by many different means, some don't have personal responsibilities at home, some people have a pension and free healthcare they rely on, some people are team operators. Everyone's personal situation is different so when some one says sure it can be done, you better hope your situation is the same as their's. JMOjacquesi23, MarkH83, Runnin and 2 others Thank this.
