Why do vehicles not use their headlights when the sun is low in the sky?
I usually have my headlights on all the time, bulbs still last a long time and their free for me. Makes me more visible

Ok so you can barely tell most Volvo trucks have there lights on in broad daylight. I couldn't even tell if I had one out at night if it didn't show up on my dash. I even ran brights a night some and it looked like dim.

Prostar comes on automatically. To dim them for someone backing up I have to put it in neutral set the breaks and flip them on then off.

I would say it's more for safety then anything else. Many vehicles drive with their lights on.

ANYTHING that makes me more visible is a plus, in my book. If it's a 2% improvement, that would be worth it. A headlight costs $17.95 at a truck stop and takes five minutes to replace. I'll spend the money and time EVERY time if it gives me even a TINY margin of safety. The cost/benefit ratio favors daytime headlights by EXTREME margins.

I do most of my driving at night. I don't bother to turn them off after the Sun comes up unless I stop. If I burn one out I just switch it with a bulb from the high beams and run it past the shop at the end of my day.

Running on 2 way roads, I turn the headlights on. Rain, during the day, headlights on. New Mexico, Safety Corridor, headlights on. Washington state has some sections of road, lights must be on they call it, See and Be Seen.

Define "older". One of my trucks is a 2003, headlights come on automatically when brakes are released.
