With the headlights on it gives a better perspective to oncoming traffic as to your speed and distance.
How is that a bad thing?
Also, leaving he headlights on does not reduce the lifetime of the bulb that much, if at all.
It is the on/off cycle that most determines that, as turning the light on puts the most current into the wire to thus reduce its life span.
Headlights during the day........

Passive safety is the idea of having lights on all the time. Our company has such a policy.
But there are a few things that bother me.
Why the heck do the fog lights have to be on on a sunny day? Might be cool to show off the specs of the truck.
Wrong aim of the lights blending the traffic. Specially those retrofit HID lights, which are not DOT confirm. Retrofit LED's ain't much better. Have them adjusted at least upon installation.
The biggest stupidity IMO is the introduction of DRL where the low beams come on ( on 4 wheelers now).
People drive all live long assuming they have their lights on which isn't true. There are NO taillights in most cases. Invisible from the back at night.
Cars designed for the European market. In 1990 and later cars had to have 'fog tail lights'.
That light could be used in fog only and reduced visibility of less than 150ft. The maximum allowed speed when the light was on was at 30mph. But there is no speed limiter involved. The light had to be shut down if there was traffic following close to avoid it getting blended.
Most of the drivers turned them on and left them on which caused quite some trouble if you did follow such a vehicle in rain. I did hate them back in Europe and I still do. Luckily they became fewer. -
I'm just to lazy to deactivate the daytime running lights in this thing. When I first bought it I thought they where the headlights but my headlights are a fraction brighter. One day when I'm bored I will do it. I saw the procedure outlined in my owners manual.

It's safer. I've seen several accidents with cars the same color as the road or background. So they were invisible. If you keep you lights on it makes you much more visible.okiedokie Thanks this.

I turn my headlights on during the day when its raining snowing or foggy. If its bright and beautiful then theres no need for them until dusk.
-
I'll never understand that myself. Dusk, rain etc obviously makes sense but if somebody can't see my almost 70' truck coming at them in daylight then my headlights aren't the issue, their eyesight is.
Cw5110 Thanks this. -
Don't complain when you're involved in an accident and are facing a lawsuit.
-
Exactly why I said it was laughable
-
I'd love to see a lawsuit for not having lights on when there not legally required and not needed
That's like getting a ticket for not having your wipers on when its not raining. -
The lawyer simply has to convince enough stupid jurors that you didn't do EVERYTHING to avoid the accident.Cw5110 Thanks this.
