Steering recall interim fix

There is NO INTERIM FIX!!! You need to go to a Volvo dealer ASAP!! It must be reviewed (and repaired if necessary) by Volvo. Backyard mechanic high jinx wont work. Volvo will pay for the tow. Better call a Volvo dealer and get inspected ASAP!

By the way...if you are currently driving a recalled Volvo and get caught at the scales. You will be put out of service, ticketed and fined. Yes you will have CSA points assessed against you. The DOT is dead serious about this. The problem is that significant.

PS You will need to have documentation of the inspection/repair from Volvo to show the DOT if you get pulled in. I repeat....MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DOCUMENTATION SHOWING YOU HAD YOUR TRUCK INSPECTED OR REPAIRED!! IF NOT YOU WILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES.

 

The temp fix is just to add another tool pin should be about half way down on the block, but after it's been and has passed inspection.

I know there is an interim fix. What I am saying is that drivers should not do this themselves (unless you are a certified mechanic that can sign off on truck repairs).

DOT is throwing trucks out of service left and right. I am saying make sure you have documentation of the inspection/repair to avoid BS at the scale house or if you get pulled over. You will be put out of service unless you can demonstrate you complied with the recall. DOCUMENTATION IS THE COIN OF THE REALM

PS. Please do not listen to truck stop banter or trucking company shills when it comes to having some documentation verifying you complied with the recall. YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT!!

 

Correct the placement of the pin is very specific. So either dealer or repair shop has to do it

I would have to strongly agree with Moglar on the need to take the truck to a shop. The "interim" fix is a simple drilling and pin set. However, before that is done, a gauge is put to the Clamp(faulty piece), and if it exceeds the specs there is a real possibility of failure even with the interim fix. So a new steering rod clamp would have to put on, with the fix done at that time.

 

The DOT will want to see proof you adressed the recall. It's not hard to get. They are putting affected Volvos out Of service and issueing tickets.
