It is really bad right now. But not as bad to not be making any money even after truck payments... If you are driving yourself and not being a boss and you're not making any money thats bad even with this market and being based out of chicago

Seems to have picked up a bit, but there were several months where I would run a load off anywhere from 800-2200 miles then sit for 2-4 days waiting for a decent load out. Brokers calling with $0.97 cents per mile all in loads, my ex-wife telling me I'm crazy to sit and wait for a better paying load.
BigT13 Thanks this. -

Anyone who says they can't run for under 5 is a lying jerk off

I'm leased to a carrier out of South Holland...were all doing container work right now, 3 dry vans, 15 reefers and 10 step decks parked........61 company trucks, 50 owner operators....
Moon_beam, NavigatorWife and BigT13 Thank this. -
My friend parked his dry van and came over to do containers the first of the year....unfortunately, with the railroads hurting and lack of freight, even container work has slowed down to historic lows...
Moon_beam, NavigatorWife and BigT13 Thank this. -
The operating authority for Syny is just over a year old ... and the formerly known as .... might just well be clues to underlying "issues"

It has been bad this year. Husband has had to relocate up to 500 miles away to pickup a load on occasion. Rates out of Florida, if you get there are the bottom of the bucket. He has hauled, I believed the cheapest so far has been $.66 a mile. This is lease also, and he hauls reefer mostly. It seems to pickup on occasion, and then the low rate pops up again.
I know that 2008 and 2009 when he first got into driving was a bust for a lot of smaller companies. If it is this bad now, what is it going to be like after Christmas when sales fall.
Does your husband have a cooler on his truck and a microwave? If he can fix some of his meals on the truck, this can help keep costs down. Also the meals would be a lot healthier for him.
My husband stays out for several months too, there is no way he could afford to be home every couple of weeks. I get aggravated also when the loads don't pay like they should, but hopefully the next load will make up for it and things get better in the future. He is otr though and it incurs other expenses that perhaps your husband doesn't have to pay. I know shippers and receivers know that tollroads cost money, he goes over bridges that charge tolls when in NJ and NY area; tollroads are easier to take a big truck down vs little town roads, or in some areas no roads that are suitable. I feel they cheat drivers out of this money just because they can. -
.66 cents that's just ridiculous
NavigatorWife and RERM Thank this.
