My trainer did the same thing by not following the checklist, in his defense he was on a fedex jit dedicated. Picked me up at 1800 we picked up our first load at 2100. At 0200 I started driving after only a couple of hours of sleep (I know my fault). This was 2 years after I got my CDL so I had not been behind the wheel during that time. During my whole training time I drove the over night shift.
When I became a trainer I tried to kept my time training in mind when I trained newbies. As for your first backing, when I was in school they recommended that we should always try to back in truck stops. Their reason you'll learn quicker as you try not to hit other trucks.I would never have my trainees back in a truck stop until I felt comfortable with their backing. They also would never drive the over night their first 3 weeks with me.

I'd just like to say you could have made anonomist complaint to safety, they would have audited him. I'm a newbie with swift an this is what they told us, any safety concerns make the call better to be safe then sorry! Hopefully he's off the road by now!

Hey, I went through about the same thing with crst. One guy went to bars while out bobtailing and he was a heavy tequlia drinker. I reported him and got a new one. The next one stank so bad that when he took off his socks a cloud started coming off of his feet, had no social skills what so ever, and was like a napoleon bonaparte. Two weeks of that and I had to get off of the truck because we were obviously not going to be able to run another 10th of a mile together. I was threatened by termination because this guy was a good friend of the general manager. got thru that with a guy from kentucky and finally back to the terminal in OKC and got on a truck with my husband.

It all comes down to standing up for what you believe in. My first day with a trainer he tried to use me as a log book and I told him that I would not sign the log unless I was actually doing the work. He tried to play a guilt trip on me. The guy was a huge jerk. Had he been easier to deal with I might not have turned him in. I could not take this guy yelling about everything. He would say "what was the height on that overpass a couple of miles ago" I dont remember then he would start yelling. That was enough of that.
