Advice for new Drivers

    Don't ever ever but never nose in park. Besides looking like an ignorant muttonhead I saw it again tonight. Truck was trapped nose in. This girl got ####eyed in the hole and couldn't get out without side swiping the truck next to her. That was about 12 hours ago when I first got to the J for a 10 hour. I got out with the crowd that had gathered to watch her predicament to partake in the bemusement. Well I just woke up and she's in the drivers lounge at the whitelands flying j literally crying. Actual tears. I would almost feel sorry for her but only a lazy ####### will nose in park.

    I say lazy because she's too lazy to learn how to back in. Every time she's nosed in in the past was a missed learning opportunity. She wouldn't have hit anything it just might have taken her an extra 10 minutes and stress she obviously couldn't handle or she wouldn't nose in. I guarantee she won't nose in again. Sadly you'll probably see her parked next to the cat scales when there's five open spots to back into on the lot. I'm getting the feeling the drivers of those two trucks have gone home. They're not in the trucks and that was 12 hours ago.

    Now what's really sad is this chick may actually get these two poor guys towed. They're all the way at the back of the lot out of the way but since this chick nosed in Flying J now knows they've dropped their rigs there for most likely home time. Against flying j rules but we all do it

    Sometimes driving reefer,Ill nose in park,but only if I can guarantee,I can back straight out,like into a main road,or toward the fuel islands.
    You can usually tell which spots are safe to nose into,but I also see drivers,nose in,when there is no real safe way to exit,without waiting for a nearly empty truck stop.

    Nothing wrong with pulling in nose first, the smart ones that do it will always park where they can back straight out.

    We were all rookies once.

    How helpful, standing around in bemusement. I hope someone recorded it for Facebook.

    Reefers, weed burners, generators. Expensive front ends - lots of reasons to nose in.

    Pulling doubles, I stopped for a 30 - pulled in between 2 angle parked trucks. Got half way in and realized rear pup drivers side was going to hit.

    Couldn't go back either without striking.

    Broke down set in the middle of the trucks, reassembled. Didn't want to wake drivers.

    Good way to spend my 30. :)

    You can only pull in because there is no one on at least one side to make the turn into the spot and get straightened out. This is probably going to change by dark. Got this picture last night in Minooka, IL Pilot. This morning truck is still there with trucks on both sides and directly to the rear. (A 1 foot curb is in front of them) This driver put themself and their schedule at mercy of other drivers. There are places it is practical and sensible to nose in. This was not the place [or the time]. It is a narrow driveway with too little room to back straight and be able to turn out regardless what the image optical illusion looks like there is room ... there is not.

    And we can also get into the fact that this WIDE aszz-end is sticking out an additional 5 foot or so making even more difficult for the next trucker who wants the spot along the offender's driver side. Sure, you can make the argument "better my trailer ICC bumper get hit then my truck hood" but in this case, it's just poor skills or laziness, or both, that made everybody's life more difficult then it needed to be.

    I should also note this maneuver was done an hour before dark ... the worst possible time given the truck stop will be completely full by dark. You can maybe do this mid morning or mid-day when you're only going to be inside 30 minutes to an hour. But why, when parking is ample and backing is easy?

    There's nothing wrong with parking nose in as long as you think first.Will I be able to get out in the morning.This lady the op described did a horrible job at parking from the get go and hopefully learned from it.

    I nose in when dropping my truck at a truck stop for an extended amount of time, or if it's a pull through, that's it. The only reason I do it then is so if someone hits me, they likely hit my trailer, not my truck. It is, by far, easier to back into a spot than to back out of one with trucks on either side, I've never understood even the lazy people, they're actually making more work for themselves.

    And don't get me started on who likes to sidle in along side the Cat scales bypass lane to take their 10 .... rarely is it mega carrier drivers, but too often it's independents with hoods who think there sheite don't stink.
