Moose , I'd fight that . I looked up the current code , NESC, and communication conductors cannot be lower than 15.5 feet and that includes alleys and driveways .

Its going to stay on your CSA and RA scores as a crash for 3 years and will cost you money on your bonus if it reduces your ranking .

We should have a reasonable expectation that obstructions we may encounter are both visible and where they should be . This is not the same as taking off the corner of a building while turning .

My PTA from home time was 1200 today. It is now 1840 with no pplan.
When I got here the terminal was packed with trucks, trailers and drivers. I wonder if it the same today.

And no go on fighting the preventable. Safety says I should have seen it, so...

Sorry to hear that , Moose . I guess that's a lesson for the rest of us to never report pulling down any overhead wires to the Swift "safety " chimpanzees .

Just finished orientation in Rochelle, IL. I'm currently hanging out @ the Red Roof Inn waiting on my mentor who's about 600 miles away. Tomorrow I'll be driving to Davenport, IA to drop my 1st load. How exciting! :blob6:

You know that I am every night from 6-8, Mr Walker, black, free, open bar, make your own, and then later upstairs on the 22nd floor, a double on the rocks, $3.00. Wind, what wind. Not even a drop of rain since I have been here

On the other hand, at least one passing car saw what happened.
I was in a residential area, so no telling how many more saw it.
I also stopped to assess the damage when I heard the cable fall on the truck, and to move it to the side.
Then I reported the incident to both the power company and phone company. The power company had also asked what company I worked for.

I had debated with myself about reporting it to Swift, and I either won or lost depending if someone else had reported it.

If someone reported it to Swift and I hadn't, I would be fired for sure.
And it would not be that difficult for Swift to determine that my truck was the only one in that area at the time.

The 'lesson' for all of us might be to be more attentive to our surroundings.
I was in a difficult and tight situation and I messed up.

Safety is correct in that I could have avoided the 'crash'.
    How?
Well, I could have chosen a longer route around to get headed the right way on that street.
I could have judged better, or have seen better, that overhead line.

But I would rather take the hit of a preventable than be fired for failing to report it.
I'll be on the sht list for a year, but I still have my job.

I-80 in the middle of Nevada, rolling West. Pulling an empty trailer (roll door, lift gate) from Martinsburg WV to Reno; 2500 miles. About time I get a decent week. My student has been on my truck five weeks and had just hit 150 hours before this run. (This run alone is better than either of the last two weeks.)

After this, he gets his introduction to Donner Pass; then a drop and hook will send us into Washington. First time there in a truck; lived there back in the '80s.

I woke up at 0700 with a pplan on my phone... pick up at 0600.
    LOL
I called, and it can pick up any time today or tomorrow. It is going to Syracuse, NY for a Monday morning live unload. A MOM load, and not too heavy.
Another load with way too much time on it, but I wasn't going to turn it down. I'll still have time to pull out a decent week if I can get a load from Syracuse.

Tomorrow I'll be stopping at the TA in Morris, IL. I need a good chicken pot pie from R Place.

I have to admit one time going into a Swift customer, I was looking over my shoulder for the empty trailer lot as i was slow rolling up to the guard shack and felt/heard this gawdawfull noise as my hood snapped off the short little red and white swing arm that was set real low for cars. The chick in the shack says it happens about twice a week and she had the replacement arm and tools to fix it before I came back out with an empty. I still sent in the accident macro thing but she never reported it to Swift and I never heard a word about it from Swift either.
