If we pretend trucking was like McD as in pay, don't you think people would move up the scale to get better pay? If van is the lowest pay, why not aim high?
If we say minimum wage job don't deserve 15/hr because it's a starter job for teenage to join the work force, then are you saying people who works for megas putting van should get the same pay as a car hauler gig?

Huge article on the financial web. McD's said flatly, if the minimum wage goes to $15, they will replace over 50% of employees with self ordering computer screens.
So the $15 mark probably is just another step, a government conspiracy, to get more electronic monitoring into our lives. Ever notice you go buy an oil filter, the store has your name, etc. Same at the lumber yard. Soon they will know exactly if you prefer cheeseburger meal deal, or quarter pounder.
So really, you guys are making $15? Where have I gone wrong? -
Look at how many stores have self check out lanes, a few food places already have had self ordering screens for a while... The $15.00 has been passed n CA and NY...it's coming

I've been trying to tell new guys this for awhile also, and wish I would have been more prudent in my 20's. -
truckers are getting screwed without vaseln. its because its easy business to start and not much competitive edge betwin trucking companies only to lower rate. that's why trucking companies/brockers run at minimum profit and filling seat with anybody who can hold the steering wheel.

There are trucking companies of the past, that had the Teamsters Union representing the drivers and other employees, that have gone out of business.
Part of the problem is that the Teamsters Union priced a lot of their members out of a job. The companies could no longer afford to payout the Teamster Union wages and benefits. THIS IS REALLY SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!
I myself get reminded from time to time about how lucky I am to NOT be in a labor union, due to the pitfalls of being priced out of a job and the risk of losing a job, should a strike ever occur.
Also, if a union employee should get terminated from a union job, (especially if the union employee ticked off a union steward or representative), that union employee could be barred from ever getting another union job within a defined area of the country. AGAIN, THIS IS REALLY SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!

This line of thought is what turned trucking from one of the best blue-collar jobs to one of the worst.
1) Corporate profit margins are at an all-time high.
2) Wages as a percent of the economy are at an all-time low.
What's wrong with a driver getting a fair wage, why would another driver be opposed to that? I'm sure there are studies that show unions don't lead companies down the path of insolvency solely on their own merit.Toomanybikes, Pintlehook and stayinback Thank this. -
And a lot of what you describe is/was worse case scenarios too...
I mean come on.....not too often is an employee going to pee-off the steward or B.A.
And if they do, Internal action takes place Quietly to remedy that.
I stand Firm on What I say and the Direction I would send the Young,big Hearted, Folks with Desire to make a career out of trucking is to Become a teamster.....
I mean Really mje.. There isn't much alternative......
