I bought this 2005 KW W900 Tri Axle from the RB Auction in Texas. The odometer was showing around 280k miles. When I got the truck here we hooked up the computer and its showing 1.1 million miles. Any ideas whats going on here? Do you think it means there is 280k miles on a rebuilt engine? The engine runs great with no issues. The ECM report shows the same engine serial number as what the truck was built with. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well you know the truck has way more than 280K on it. My 03 had 1.3 mil when I sold it last fall. The 6nz in it was strong as mule still so that's not a sure bet on a rebuild. I would think paperwork would accompany a rebuild as a selling point.
Pretty safe bet the 1.1 mil on the ecm is actual miles on the truck.
From there it's anyone's guess with no paperwork. -
I have had an issue that when you replace the dash cluster you cannot reset the odo reading on them. This has happened to me now on two Freightliners. When I say reset them I mean to what mileage was on the other one. The new dash goes to zero and you cannot change it. Not sure if this is the case with yours.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Some people will replace the speedo gauge at the same time as a rebuild/inframe so they have an odometer that starts at 0. On the other hand maybe the original one quit and it needed replaced.

That'd be my guess too.

When I bought my KW it had a replaced cluster the original one stopped working.

The RD (before it was redone) needed a new speedo/odo, so one was put in. Started back at 0. Printed a label of the milage off the old one and stuck it to the shift pattern decal. Also made note in the service book at the shop. Total milage is odo reading + sticker milage. The shop said they could roll the new odo to start where the old one left off, but it might break if they did, so we left it

I purchased my T800 from a dealer in Canada and changed the speedo to read in miles instead of kilometers. The computer was clocking in miles, so mines is about 400k off from each other.

Thanks for the thoughts. Any ideas on what to look for on the engine to see if it possibly had a rebuild?

A head that's not painted to match the block and a water pump that's not painted
