That's fine if you don't want to share, I was just curious if it's really worth the money to operate on that kind of schedule instead of regular working days sleeping nights schedule. It must be very hard on your body

Yep every time it will devolve. These guys who have to keep moving no matter the rate will never be convinced there is any way to book a better rate. And will continue to think anyone that might be doing it that way sits around for days and days waiting on the score. Who does that? Not me. When I leave the house I'm busy keeping the truck busy. I don't hang around for days waiting o a score. That's what guys who got themselves into a poor market do. Instead of booking and going or deadhead in to a more promising area then they fall back into old habits and tell you it can't be possible. OK then...

There are trade offs in every situation. I have always been someone that didn't care to get out of bed until noon anyways if I could get away with it. As a driver you have to manage your time out here. You sleep when you know there are breaks whenever that is. For me that has always been the case whether I was a company driver or o/o.
If you work graveyard shift at times that's just what you do. Nothing unusual about it. You just adjust and adapt. When scoring late is the way things are best I won't hardly look at loads before 3pm other than to check volumes. I'm not sitting up all day staring at loads and most definitely there is no grass growing under my feet when I leave the house. These guys who sit 3 or 4 days in their trucks waiting for the score need to re-think what they are doing. Likely they ended up in a poor market on a poor rate. You have to cut losses and move on to greener pastures.
If someone wants to work spot freight keeping bankers hours they're always going to work really hard for very little and be complaining about rates. Sorry that's just how it is. Driving a truck is hard work regardless of the hours you keep. So why anyone would want to work twice as much for no real net gain I mean I just don't get it? I see it everyday up to $5 per mile on trips less than 50 miles, and on trips that run between 200-300 miles ( pays average $2.50 per mile ), best thing is once you've established a lane that you wanna run, go talk to the customers and pull directly, skip the brokers and middleman, you'll make more. I hardly ever book a load from the boards, I just run with the same customers ( 6-8 ) every week. It's all about running smart, and drive less, there's more in life than just stuck behind a steering wheel everyday

Another thing, when you build a relationship with your customers, and they know you are reliable, there's that last minute stuff, that maybe the customer needs their freight to be there at a certain time, for example, run a Sunday morning load 200 miles, which they pay my round trip so I can be back home the same Sunday and plus the pay my fuel also. Works out good

Guys have been complaining about low rates for years, my self included. Unfortunately, within the last two years too many companies and o/o taking low rate cheap freight. The bummer is that the freight doesn't pay cheap, the broker is just getting a bigger cut. I rarely go through a broker, maybe once a year if that. If you want to make enough to survive or expand its coming to the point of working only with direct freight. If you don't have direct freight then you need to have a nice niche with a reliable freight source. Once you have this it's very important to keep the loser low balling carriers out. Sometimes it gets messy but they are like a cancer once they get a foot in they only spread and bring in their other low balling losers.
