I had someone use my name, dob, ssn. They opened a Sprint phone account using fake address in my town. All this was done online.
They ran up a $3500 bill at Sprint.
Identity theft is common. People steal your info that's available at all kinds of sources.
I had Sprint fraud department verify that info was fraud and I had to contact all the Credit agencies and I pay my bank to monitor my credit for new accounts in my name.

I can understand credit monitoring. But do they monitor a possible criminal conviction as well? As I've been looking into this I've found that you can't even run a background check on yourself. There are many many many fraudulent companies that claim you can though. Which will probably end up with you providing them the information they need to scam you as well. What I've seen in this is that you have to hire a private investigator and pay $20-50 to get your background check done. I know that it can be an issue when buying a house or car or phone when something derogatory appears on your credit. But we're talking about a livelihood. I've been denied the ability to work. Not because of someone stealing my identity either. A complete mistaken identity that has been represented as me even though there is no record of it from the source aka county courthouse. I honestly understand that mistakes happen. I'm not really even mad about that as much. It's more not given the opportunity to clear my name when I had the proof in my hand.

In the end it is what it is. I'm not bitter. I really would like, if anything at all, for this to be something #1 people are aware that can happen to them and #2 all recruiters (or companies) give the benefit of the doubt to someone who says this is not right. I'm happy and excited with where I'm going though!

UPDATE: I got the letter in the mail today from the background agency. It had all the information to dispute, which I will be doing. Hopefully disputing will remove it from my profile. But I think it may be just with this one company. There are 100s out there. So I may very well run into this in the future. So I'll be maintaining a file of all information about it. In the future if I ever decide to move on I'll have to announce it prior to a background check being done.

Schneider is a good place to start. Yes, they are slim on "stuff" and the pay is lower but the thing about CPM is the important one "M". I started there and got 4-600/day on a dedicated account. The training is way better than you'll hear. You will not regret it. Keep a positive attitude, stay sober during training, pay attention and have fun. I won't say be safe because you are about to hear that ALL DAY LONG!
