Are you saying, for example, that you had a friend that left YRC and went to ABF and he had seniority over men that were already there?

Right now I live close to kansas city all ltls have huge terminals up there. Not sure what there classification is. But my goal is to one day move down to springfield mo. Holland, odfl, and fedex have decent sized terminals but estes, r+l, and saia they r on the smaller side.
Right now I'm thinking of doing "otr regional" for Estes or holland out of kc. Basically extra board out 5 days home 2. Then perhaps transfer to springfield next spring. I'd like to do holland because they have a single seniority board but they seem like a company on the decline... estes people have good things to say but the springfield terminal is so small makes me worry gaining seniority won't me easy
It's not easy try to better your and your family's life in this business of driving I tell u what -
Yes, I believe that is how it worked exactly. He even got a bid. All of his seniority with the union carried over since he still belonged to the same locale -
As long as you are working, you are gaining seniority.
You won't move up until others leave.
I have heard from some of their guys that the Springfield Estes terminal is moving to a much larger facility eventually. -
I believe son you have been given some bad information here.Pintlehook Thanks this.

Really? I know the saia terminal down there is TINY. Just makes me nervous working for a small terminal I would assume it would be easier to get laid off. Do you know alot about estes in Springfield mo? Good place to work? Any info appreciated

I work in a small terminal. We stay busy. Nobody ever goes home. There's days I wish I was sent home... Sometimes working for a small terminal is a good thingBob Dobalina and Mike2633 Thank this.

If you plan on starting out in the city, just know that Estes doesn't pay overtime until after 55 hours (and they are good about working drivers right up to that point, but not over). Also, if you switch classifications at Estes, you permanently lose bidding seniority. They aren't suitable for your plan. Also, small terminals usually don't have daytime linehaul runs. You'd probably need to get hired at a big hub/breakbulk terminal for that. KC may have more hubs.Last edited: Jun 26, 2016
Lucy in the Sky, Pintlehook and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Xpo/Conway runs both a single and a double board. The larger terminals run two boards. We bid every January, can go from city to line haul and back again with no penalty at bid time. If you transfer to another terminal, rules are different. Keep your seniority for vacation, but you go to the bottom of the board.
Lucy in the Sky Thanks this.
