Try to get on the food side it pays better and easier in most cases. I got on with a small 100 truck food outfit for my 1st job and was grossing about 1100-1200 a wk for a 4 day work wk. I can tell you right now you wont do that otr for even 7 days at a rip let alone 4

    Pintlehook and Mike2633 Thank this.

Most food companies not every single one, but a lot of them will take brand new guys. It's actually a good way to start because you get better driving experience in a way I think. Your getting all the hard stuff under your belt and learning the best way to do all of it.

I will never run otr. I came right out of driving school to food service. Quit food about 5 months ago, took some time off to enjoy some of the money I stashed away and now im in the oil patch in se ohio moving equipment working for a 3rd party vendor, moving Schlumberger and US-Well service frac/cement trucks.

Im away from home a few weeks at a rip but its not otr, im in the same hotel every night and im working with my uncle. Can do about $400 on a good day. Food is a really good place to start though

My first driving job was pop with 4 day work week. Love it. U don't need otr but some if not most require it.

I got lucky and knew a guy and started off at the bottom and work up. Now I'm Otr, kinda ***backwards

I'm very lucky to be where I am right now. What's keeping us going balls to the wall is we move equipment for about a dozen diff yards. I've had only 3 days off in the past month. Rumor has it Schlumberger is suppose be servicing 7 more rigs around se ohio and wv and US well services is suppose to be bringing up another fleet on the frac side. Our company is in the process of getting a sand contract too, we dabble in a bit of everything

That's awesome man great to hear, my friend in wt also tells me things look like they're picking up a little bit. I looked on cl and they're hiring for sand drivers so that =fracking and then comes the water! I wouldn't mind a sand gig if it was paper logs and 24/7 deal.. those companies with elogs and 2 loads a day are garbage lol

I got my start at a locally owned Coca Cola facility right out of High School. I worked inside until I turned 18 and they paid me to learn how to drive a truck. I was lucky in more ways than one, but a main reason was because they had actual 18 wheelers and they bottled their own product. They used the big trucks to take it to the distributors. Lucked out in a union job at a young age and ended up pretty much writing my own ticket. It was a good experience, at least for me.

Haha yea screw e-logs I dealt with that at the food gig. I'm on paper now and never run out with that magical 5th line lol. I live in north east pa and out here in ohio there is way more oil traffic on the roads than around my house

    G13Tomcat Thanks this.
