Anyone using the 770 GPS ? I have one and am having serious problems. My 760 had similar problems. Frequently when leaving a truck stop it wants you to turn in the opposite direction. Sometimes it corrects when you drive the correct direction. Other times it wants you to drive the wrong way for a few miles and make a U Turn?? Turning into a Truck stop it will give you a "truck accessibility unknown" message.
Driving from Reno to Sacramento I never received one steep road warning!!!! When you search for a truck stop or rest area it shows them ahead of you and as much as 300 miles behind. Who would ever turn around and go back even 30 miles?????

I have two of them plus the 760. Yes, if you came off the route to pull into a truck stop it will act like you saw something that it doesn't know about. So you have to remember how you got there and back track.

That's normal for Garmin, I have the 570 and it does it. I have no idea why, I know a driver that's had the same issue with Garmin and has even called their tech support too ask why. From what he told me its just the way it is. Doesn't matter if you updated the maps it will still do it. I have had that issue especially from coming of the Pilot in Baldwin FL near I-10. It will tell me too go a certain distance pull a U-turn and go the other way just too get back to the Interstate sometimes you have too be one step ahead of these things.

I have started to pay more attention to how I entered the TS!! I have also found that if you are in a TS and program a new destination it can give you strange directions. But as soon as you are of the lot it corrects itself. I don't really worry about this when on the road but being in a large city to make a delivery I want accurate directions. I have also noticed that if you are directed to a DC and need to return to your starting point if you use recent destinations it often gives you a different route?? But the most frustrating is looking for a TS or rest area and it shows you destinations 300 miles behind you!! That would be the day when I would drive 300 miles in the wrong direction!!

The Garmins have some programming flaws related to route generating. Biggest problem is it looks for the nearest "road", even if it's an interstate ramp, and sends you that way, perhaps to turn around. Another problem is it is seems to know where there are or might be island medians, and also assumes there is no cut out to cross at a given spot, so again it may turn you the wrong direction in the beginning to have you come in from right turn, curbside approach because it doesn't know any better. Also, I run my Garmin in North Up Orientation mode as opposed to 3D forward view, so I'm not sure if there are any additional weaknesses in 3D mode to be aware of.

I remember the Rand Mcnally's handling these situations better, but still prefer the Garmin. Just need to learn it's goofy idiosyncrasies and know when to look for them or expect them. These issues might also cause it to want to route you onto a later or earlier exit then you should.

Also, make sure you've updated yours to the latest software version. Updating the maps is not so critical.

You have to be smarter than a GPS.

Coming off the interstate and turning into a truck stop that was not a stop programmed into the GPS,.. it will recalculate and often wants you to go the long way around to getting back onto the interstate. Garmin also at times seems to have an affliction with going under or across over/underpasses to get back on to an interstate as well.

Again,.. you have to be smarter than the GPS. None of them are perfect. I prefer the new Garmins for their calculation speeds on longer routes vs the slower GPS out there. That and the new screens are much clearer and easier on the eyes.

I learned a long time ago to not trust any GPS. But some of the Garmin flaws should be corrected. I have the latest software and maps. I tried a Rand unit but went back to Garmin.

Garmin DEZL's still has the truck stop database from how it existed probably 10 years ago. So if they won't update that, I'm not holding my breath waiting for them to fix other minor issues.

With all truck GPS units, they use the truck stop business address which is usually not the truck stop 'truck entrance.'

Many times to get to the truck entrance, you will turn down a road that becomes a residential/restricted & the GPS will think you past the entrance & are driving on a restricted route.

Sometimes the truck entrance is off a side road or a road not even recognized in the GPS database so it is prudent to pay attention to the signs & preferable to look up the address on Google maps which will give you a great overview of actual truck entrances/exits.
